8 Can Taco Soup with Chicken

I love how easy this recipe is and that I have these 8 cans on hand at any given time. Add it all together and create one amazingly easy dish that is thrown into a stove top pot or slow cooker. As the taco soup is cooking the flavors begin to combine creating an irresistible soup. It is thick, rich and chunky! This taco soup is fresh and comforting in every bite!

This chicken taco soup is perfect served with a side of roasted carrots or zucchini spears if you have the time. It’s also great with a fresh wedge salad for some extra nutrients. If you don’t have the time to make anything along side this soup, then that’s ok! This soup has everything you need for a hearty and filling meal that everyone will love.

    Everything You’ll Need

Each ingredient in this chicken taco soup is something you probably already have in your pantry! It is simple to make and a tried and true favorite chicken taco soup. If you are a fan of quick and easy recipes than this one is for you. You really just need 8 cans and that’s it! Now, I know not everyone is a fan of all the ingredients in canned items, so you can obviously substitute anything canned for whatever fresh ingredients you want. One I often substitute is a rotisserie chicken for canned chicken. You can find measurements below in the recipe card.

    Chicken Taco Soup Ingredients

    • Tomatoes: Diced in a can, I add the entire can.
    • Corn: Drain the corn and add to the pot.
    • Black Beans: First drain and then rinse the beans well to make sure the salt is washed off. I think they taste way better this way.
    • Pinto Beans: Adds the extra thickness that are creamy. Prepare them the same way as the other canned beans.
    • Cream of Chicken Soup: Thick soup mixed with small chicken bites. All ready to be added to the soup once opened. You could also use a homemade recipe if you are trying to cut back on salt!
    • Chicken Breast: Tender chicken in a can that is ready in minutes. Drain and add it in, or use a rotisserie chicken or boil chicken, then take it off the bone and add.
    • Green Enchiladas Sauce: Bring on some spice with this enchilada sauce.
    • Chicken Broth: A savory liquid that fills this soup with chicken flavoring.
    • Homemade Taco Seasoning: My homemade taco seasoning is so good and easy to make. Make ahead of time and store for 3 months! Obviously you can use a store-bought version, they are just much higher in salt.

    Optional Toppings

    • Olives: Sliced from a jar or can.
    • Avocado: I like to add fresh avocado for a little contrast of flavor and color. They are delicious and full of vitamins.
    • Sour Cream: A dollop on top is just what this soup needs!
    • Tortilla Strips: A crunch that brings texture to the soup.
    • Lime Wedges: The acid in the lime brightens up the whole soup, it’s perfect!
All the cans of beans, corn, chicken and enchilada sauce in the pot with cream of chicken soup and chicken broth.

Delicious and chewy red velvet cookies with white chocolate chips. Rich, sweet, with a hint of tang, this is the dessert you’ll be needing for all of your holiday parties!

Red velvet is one of my favorite flavors! It makes any dessert absolutely mouthwatering. You’ll have to try my red velvet brownies, cream cheese muffins, and cupcakes!

Red velvet cookies with white chocolate chips stacked on top of each other.

This one’s for all of my red velvet-loving readers. I love a good red velvet cake! Not only are they beautiful, but they taste amazing, too! I’ve always wondered why you don’t see red velvet in cookie form more often. Who wouldn’t want a bite-sized piece of tangy, chocolatey goodness?! This red velvet white chocolate chip cookie recipe is absolutely delicious. It looks as good as it tastes, truly! I just love red velvet. And I love white chocolate. And I love a good cookie. Combine the three and you have a winning dessert!

Another perk! These red velvet white chocolate chip cookies are super easy to throw together. This recipe uses so many basic ingredients that you likely already have. Then, everything is mixed up and ready to bake in less than 15 minutes! These vibrant red cookies smell so irresistible when they’re baking. Less than 10 minutes later, you’ll be left with the chewiest, most delicious cookies. Good luck with resisting the urge to eat the whole pan! I run into this problem each time I make them. They’re just that good! Tasty and festive, these easy treats will be a hit wherever they go.

    What Flavor is Red Velvet?

The foundation of red velvet is cocoa powder, but vinegar and/or buttermilk are usually added which gives it that signature tangy flavor. The bit of zip helps to balance out the sweetness! Red velvet cakes and cookies are typically paired with cream cheese frosting which adds to the overall tangy flavor. So tasty!

Ingredients for Red Velvet White Chocolate Chip Cookies

No need to buy premade cookies when you’ve got all of the ingredients to make them from scratch! I love that these red velvet white chocolate chip cookies use such basic ingredients. You’ll love the soft, chewy cookies they create! If you’re looking for measurements, they can be found in the recipe card below.

    • All-Purpose Flour: All-purpose flour has a low protein content which will keep your cookies light and fluffy.
    • Cocoa Powder: Chocolate is the base flavor of these yummy cookies. I recommend using a high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor. Dutch-process cocoa will leave you with a fudgier result.
    • Cornstarch: Adding cornstarch leaves you with a more tender, delicious cookie texture!
    • Baking Soda: Necessary for light and fluffy cookies!
    • Salt: Added to enhance flavor.
    • Butter: I like to use unsalted butter for its richness. Make sure it’s at room temperature before mixing so your batter will be nice and smooth!
    • Vegetable Shortening: The fat content of shortening makes your red velvet white chocolate chip cookies supremely moist and tender!
    • Granulated Sugar: Used to sweeten your cookies!
    • Egg: Needed to bind all of the ingredients together!
    • Egg Yolk: An extra yolk is added to make the batter smooth and creamy.
    • White Vinegar: The special ingredient for red velvet! By adding white vinegar, you add a hint of tangy flavor to your cookies. Trust me, it’s delicious!
    • Vanilla Extract: Next up, we have vanilla! Vanila is super important for adding a rich flavor to your cookies. I always recommend pure vanilla extract for best results.
    • Red Food Coloring: For that gorgeous red color!
    • White Chocolate Chips: The creaminess of white chocolate is amazing alongside tangy, chocolatey red velvet.

How to Make Red Velvet White Chocolate Chip Cookies

The best part about this recipe? All you’ve got to do is mix everything up, shape your cookies, and then it’s into the oven for less than 10 minutes! These gorgeous cookies are so easy to make! They’re perfect for a last-minute dessert.

    1. Preheat Oven, Mix Dry Ingredients: Let’s make some cookies! To begin, preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Then set aside.
    2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another mixing bowl or stand mixer, cream together the butter, shortening, and sugar about 3 minutes until fluffy. Then slowly add in the egg yolk and egg and mix to combine. Add vinegar, vanilla, and food coloring and then mix until just combined.
    3. Combine: Add in the dry ingredients until combined. Then mix in ½ cup white chocolate chips.
    4. Shape: Line cookie sheets with parchment paper and scoop out the cookie dough into heaping tablespoons. Be careful not to flatten the cookies.
    5. Bake and Cool: Bake for 8-9 minutes in the preheated oven. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool and press extra chocolate chips on top. Keep the cookies stored in an airtight container.

Tips for Making the Best Red Velvet Cookies

Red velvet white chocolate chip cookies are so incredibly delicious! It’s impossible to only eat one. Here are a few of my favorite tips for making bakery-worthy cookies every time!

    • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: This is one of the most important tips! Make sure your wet ingredients like eggs, butter, milk, etc. are at room temperature before adding them to your cookie batter. This takes a bit of extra preparation, but it will make your batter nice and smooth! Smooth batter = tasty lump-free cookies.
    • Add More Cocoa: If you prefer your cookies to be more chocolatey, you can add a couple extra teaspoons of cocoa to your batter. Note: The added chocolate will make your cookies more of a dark crimson color and less red.
    • Chocolate Chips: I personally love the creaminess of white chocolate, but for a more indulgent version of these cookies, add milk or dark chocolate chips instead!
    • Underbake: If you want your cookies to be soft and chewy, the key is to take them out of the oven while the centers still look slightly underbaked. They will continue to cook on the hot cookie sheet! This is around minute 8 for me, but keep an eye on your cookies as different ovens have different cooking times.

    Storing Leftover Cookies

If by some small chance your red velvet cookies don’t get gobbled up in minutes, here’s how to store them! My family loves having these around the house to munch on.

    • At Room Temperature: Transfer cookies to an airtight container and store for 4-5 days.
    • In the Freezer: You can freeze your dough for 1-2 months. Simply form into balls and place in a freezer bag. Let thaw in the fridge overnight before baking.

    Creamy Bacon Carbonara

Carbonara is an Italian pasta dish from Rome made with egg, hard cheese, guanciale, and black pepper. I finally found a carbonara recipe that I love. The sauce is so creamy, cheesy, and so good. The best part is that the pickiest eater gobbled this down, and my other boy had seconds! It was pretty easy to throw the whole thing together. I felt like it was the perfect Sunday meal served with a side salad and garlic bread! This is the dish if you want a quick and easy delicious meal in just minutes. Ingredients

Simplicity is key with this creamy bacon carbonara meal! The use of good quality ingredients is a must! For a fully traditional carbonara recipe, use pancetta instead of bacon. You can find the exact measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Eggs: All you need is the yolks!
    • Heavy Whipping Cream: Half and half will work, but for a rich, creamy blend, heavy whipping cream is my preference.
    • Parmesan: Use a sharp, hard cheese of parmesan that is shaved instead of grated for a less gritty texture on your pasta.
    • Parsley: Fresh and chopped up very fine, this adds color and some fragrant garnish.
    • Salt: Season to your liking.
    • Red Pepper Flakes: The red pepper adds a little kick of heat to the recipe.
    • Bacon: A good thick-cut bacon or even a high-quality standard cut of bacon will make a difference. You can also use pancetta which is the traditional meat in the dish.
    • Mushrooms: This is optional, but I love mushrooms and can’t leave them out.
    • Onion: This is optional but adds a great flavor.
    • Pasta: Linguine is my favorite, but spaghetti will work great too.

    Creamy Bacon Carbonara Recipe

This creamy bacon carbonara recipe is simple to make but is a little delicate. Don’t try to rush through this recipe! The eggs will scramble if your pan is too hot, so make sure to take your time so you don’t end up with a scrambled mess. It is not a hard recipe. You just have to be a little patient.

    1. Beat: Beat the eggs, cream, parmesan, parsley, salt, and red pepper together in a bowl.
    2. Fry: Fry the bacon until crisp, then crumble and set aside.
    3. Saúte: With 1 -2 Tablespoons of bacon grease, sauté the onion and the mushrooms until the onions are translucent and golden.
    4. Drain: Drain the pasta, and while it’s still warm, add the onions and mushrooms.
    5. Combine: Pour the cream mixture into the pasta, and stir over low heat for one to two minutes. Do this on low heat, or you will make scrambled eggs.
    6. Garnish: Serve with additional parmesan.

    Tips and Tricks

This creamy bacon carbonara is really a simple sauce with noodles. You are gong to fall in love with how much flavor it has! Here are a few tips to get the most out of this recipe.

    • Authentic Carbonara: If you want to make this a more authentic carbonara recipe mix the cream and use pancetta or guanciale which is a pork jowl. You can find at most specialty Italian supermarkets or in some unique grocery stores. Just keep in mind that when substituting the heavy cream it will result in a dish that may be a bit drier, hence not quite a creamy carbonara.
    • Don’t Scramble Eggs: Have you sauce completely prepared before starting on the pasta. You will want your pasta hot when making the egg mixture. You will not want to cook the sauce or you will make scrambled eggs. When stirring the egg mixture into the pasta it needs to be quickly but not hot enough to scramble the egg.
    • Add Protein: A great way to make this a filling and well rounded meal is to add a protein like chicken, shrimp or ham.
    • Double the Sauce: I doubled the sauce recipe and I saved a bit of the pasta water, just in case my sauce got thicker than I liked – simply add a bit if you need.

    creamy bacon carbonara

    Storing Leftovers

You can definitely store your leftover creamy bacon carbonara. The key is reheating it really slow so that you don’t risk breaking the sauce. I would not recommend freezing this dish because of the cream in the sauce. Here is how to store and reheat your dish.

    • In the Refrigerator: You can store your leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
    • To Reheat: When reheating, warm over low heat until the sauce is warm. You may need to add a tablespoon of milk or cream to keep a creamy consistency.

**I doubled the sauce recipe, and it was perfect**

    • Beat the eggs, cream, Parmesan, parsley, salt, and red pepper together in a bowl.

    • Fry the bacon until crisp, then crumble and set aside.

    • With 1 -2 Tablespoons of bacon grease, sauté the onion and the mushrooms until the onions are translucent and golden.

    • Drain the pasta, and while it’s still warm, add the onions and mushrooms.

    • Pour the cream mixture into the pasta, and stir over low heat for one to two minutes. Do this on low heat, or you will make scrambled eggs.

    • Serve with additional parmesan.

    • Flour: This works as a thickening agent. I used all-purpose flour.

    • Italian Seasoning: My favorite blend of herbs! Want to try making your own? Find my full recipe here.
    • Red Pepper Flakes: A pinch of this can add a hint of heat to your stew, but feel free to leave it out if you want a milder flavor.
    • Canellini Beans: These tasty white beans add protein and fiber to your stew, making it a filling and nutritious meal. You can also swap them out for chickpeas or kidney beans.
    • Chicken Breast: Cooked and chopped chicken (you can also use shredded!) is a great source of protein. It also adds a satisfying and hearty texture to the stew.
    • Apple Cider Vinegar: A splash of this tangy and sweet vinegar brightens up the flavors in your stew.
    • Salt and Pepper: A pinch of salt and pepper go a long way to enhance and balance the flavors in your stew.
    • Parsley for Garnish: Chopped fresh parsley adds a pop of color and a fresh, herbal taste to your stew.
    • Parmesan Cheese: A sprinkle of this nutty and salty cheese makes a delicious topping for your Tuscan vegetable chicken stew.

    Vegetables

    • Onion: Adds depth and character to the stew.
    • Minced Garlic: Garlic adds a bold and zesty punch to the stew.
Carrots: They add color and nutrition to the stew.
    • Celery: Celery adds a satisfying crunch and a touch of bitterness to the stew. It’s the perfect balance!
    • Zucchini: This is a versatile veggie that adds bulk and texture to the stew. You can also use squash.
    • Red Bell Pepper: A colorful burst of sweetness in every bite! You can also use different colors of bell pepper for more variety.
    • Diced Tomatoes: Create a rich and savory broth with a touch of acidity.
    • Spinach Leaves: Spinach adds color, nutrition, and a mild, earthy flavor to your stew. Kale also works!

How to Make Tuscan Vegetable Chicken Stew

    Tips and Tricks

Tuscan vegetable chicken stew is super easy to make, but here are a few simple things to keep in mind so it turns out perfectly.

    • Use Fresh Veggies: While garden fresh veggies may be off the table for now, you’ll still want to make sure you’re using nice, ripe veggies since they’re the main flavor in this stew.
    • Taste and Adjust: Because every ingredient can vary in flavor and intensity, be sure to taste your stew and adjust the seasonings as needed. Salt and pepper can help to balance the flavors.

    Avocado Chocolate Pudding

Avocado chocolate pudding is a creamy and dark dairy free chocolate pudding with fresh and good-for-you ingredients! Not only does it taste better than regular pudding, but it’s as easy as putting all of the ingredients in the blender to curb your sweet tooth without all the guilt.

I love a good chocolate dessert. I seriously crave it all the time! Like most people, I try to eat as healthy as I can. So I’m always a fan of a chocolate dessert that doesn’t leave me feeling heavy and guilty. This avocado chocolate pudding is so perfect when you want a healthy chocolate treat. If you are in the mood for some other yummy chocolate recipes with less sugar and better for you ingredients, you should try these Chocolate Zucchini Cupcakes, these delicious Healthy Brownies, and these easy Skinny Muddy Buddies.

    Chocolate Avocado Pudding

Did I mention this delicious and easy chocolate avocado pudding is a 5 minute recipe? I know what you are thinking. It can’t be. But I’m not kidding, it literally took me 5 minutes. The thing that takes the longest is just peeling the avocado! After that you dump all the ingredients in the blender and you are done! It really is that easy, and the taste and texture is just like pudding! Aren’t avocados the best? This recipe is vegan, paleo friendly and of course gluten-free.

Homemade chocolate pudding is one of my favorite things, and this chocolate avocado pudding takes dessert to a whole different level. I love a sweet treat after dinner, but of course it’s not a great idea to load up on sugar every night before bed. A lot of the time I will serve a dessert salad like a strawberry cheesecake salad or this ACTUAL dessert strawberry pretzel salad. But a lot of the time I’m still left craving a chocolate pie or a big bowl of ice cream. This chocolate avocado pudding is a real treat that totally kills my sweet tooth, and it has less sugar than those salads! It’s the perfect dessert.

    Ingredients

You will be amazed at how these 5 ingredients make the perfect avocado chocolate pudding. It tastes even better than the original thing. Same texture and all! Everything in this recipe is healthy and naturally flavorful. If you aren’t worried about keeping this one dairy-free, some whipped cream on top is delicious! You can find the measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Avocados: You want nice and ripe avocados. If they’re too hard, they will taste a little bitter and won’t blend up as smooth.
    • Cocoa Powder: This is where the rich chocolate flavor comes from. Use a good quality cocoa powder for the best results.
    • Honey: I love this as a natural sweetener. Any natural liquid sweetener would work. You could also use agave, maple syrup, monk fruit, or liquid stevia.
    • Milk: You can use any kind of milk here. I used almond milk and it was perfect! You can use plain and unsweetened, or the vanilla kind if you want a little more sweetness. I think I’m going to try coconut milk next time because that sounds amazing! Cashew milk or any dairy free milk will work great for this recipe. You can also use regular dairy milk! It is a great option if you aren’t worried about dairy.
    • Vanilla Extract: This is what really helps it taste like pudding. It adds a little extra flavor and brings out all of the chocolate notes.
Process photos showing all of the ingredients in a blender and then it all blended together.

    Avocado Chocolate Pudding Recipe

It doesn’t get any easier than this avocado chocolate pudding recipe. All you do is put all of your ingredients in a blender or food processor, and blend until smooth! You don’t have to mess around with thickeners because the avocado does all of the work. I like my pudding chilled so I do put this in the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill before eating, but that’s totally optional! You can even eat this as a daytime snack because it is filling and full of healthy fat.

    1. Blend: In a blender or food processor, add all the ingredients and blend until the pudding is smooth and creamy. You can add more or less milk depending on what you want the texture to be.

Tips for Making Avocado Chocolate Pudding

I am pretty sure you will never go back to regular pudding after trying this avocado chocolate pudding! I mean, why would you?! This pudding is exactly like the real thing, just with better ingredients and a fresher flavor. Here are some tips for making this recipe.

    • Add Other Fruit: You can add a banana for more of a fruity sweet flavor. You may need to add a little more milk if you do add a banana to get the right texture. I really love the way it tastes with a banana in it! I also love adding fresh raspberries or strawberries for extra fresh flavor.
    • Sweetness: Add or take out as much sweetener as you would like. I like to start with the recommended amount in the recipe, and then taste it before I take it out of the blender. You can always add more if you want it a little sweeter. Adding a banana will also add natural sweetness.
    • Freeze It: Freezing your pudding actually makes a delicious frozen treat! You can freeze it on a stick to make your own healthy pudding pop, or eat it more like ice cream. It’s so yummy!

    Storing Leftovers

Everyone knows that avocados are the hardest thing to keep fresh once you open them up. But this chocolate pudding actually lasts for days in the refrigerator! Just another reason to fall in love with this dessert.

    • In the Refrigerator: You can store your leftover vegan chocolate pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    2. Microwave Candy: In microwave safe dish, melt the 5 ounces white almond bark or white chocolate chips. Then add ½ teaspoon shortening so that the almond bark will spread evenly. Microwave 30 seconds at a time and be careful not to burn the almond bark. Then dump this in the first bowl of chex and mix evenly to coat all of the chex cereal.
    3. Pour Melted Chocolate Over Chex: Melt the red candy melts next also checking and stirring the candy melts 30 seconds at a time. Once this is melted, pour this over the second bowl of divided chex and mix until coated.
    4. Coat With Powder Sugar: In two gallon size ziplock bags, put ½ cup strawberry cake mix and ¼ cup powdered sugar in each bag. Dump each bowl of chex mix in each bag and shake until coated with the powdered sugar and strawberry powdered cake mix.

I am a huge fan of chicken pot pie. We ate it growing up and it always just hits the spot! It’s a wholesome meal in just one dish and it’s something that everyone loves. Homemade Chicken Pot Pie

When I think of comfort food, I think of a homemade chicken pot pie! It’s everything I want in a meal. Lots of flavor, delicious veggies, and covered in a buttery flaky crust. What’s not to absolutely love?! I have a great pie crust recipe that I share in the recipe card, but this butter pie crust recipe is also one of my favorites. I think some people shy away from making chicken pot pie at home because they think it will take forever. Think again! This recipe takes 20 minutes to make and an hour to bake.

The inside of this chicken pot pie is so flavorful, and while it’s baking it becomes this perfectly creamy and gravy like mixture. You are seriously going to love it! The best part is, it’s the perfect meal all on it’s own. I definitely love it with some mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables like this chilled cucumber tomato salad. There is no right or wrong way to serve this chicken pot pie, it’s a classic that everyone will love.

    Ingredients

This absolutely perfect chicken pot pie recipe is a total classic. These ingredients are simple, straight forward, and so tasty when they all come together. Fresh and quality ingredients will always taste best. I didn’t include this but you can make a simple egg wash or brush the top of the crust with heavy cream to help it brown nicely. You can find exact measurements below in the recipe card.

    Chicken Pot Pie

    • Pie Crust: I absolutely love this homemade pie crust recipe, I think you will too! I like making extra and freezing some so that I can always pull some out of the freeer. A store bought pie crust will work too.
    • Chicken Breast: You will want to either boil some chicken breast or roast it ahead of time. The chicken should be cooked and skinless for this recipe. You could use other parts of the chicken as well, the dark meat has lots of flavor.
    • Butter: Butter makes everything better!
    • Onion: Onions add a lot of flavor to the filling.
    • Carrots: They get so soft and delicious!
    • Celery: They have a nice light flavor and a great texture.
    • Peas: This is optional. My picky eaters don’t like them but I love them!
    • Flour: This will help the gravy get thick.
    • Chicken Broth: This is what makes the filling so perfectly flavorful.
    • Half and Half: This helps the sauce get nice and creamy.
    • Lemon Juice: A little acid really brightens up the sauce and brings out all of the delicious flavors.

    Seasonings

    • Dried Parsley Flakes: This has a milk sweet flavor. You could also use dried basil instead.
    • Pepper: This adds extra flavor and a little heat.
    • Nutmeg: This might be a surprising ingredient, but nutmeg has a warm earthy flavor that goes a long way in this dish!
    • Dried Thyme: I absolutely love thyme, and it is the perfect herb for this dish.
    • Chicken Boullion: This is where a lot of the flavor comes from, and you will add it to taste. I would start with one teaspoon and give it a taste to see if you want more or not.
    • Salt: Salt helps to bring out all the flavors in this dish.

    Chicken Pot Pie Recipe

Homemade chicken pot pie is actually really easy to make! You don’t have to do anything special, just cook the filling in a pan before baking it. You will cook the vegetables until they are aldente, because you are still cooking them in the oven for an hour afterward. Other than that, there is nothing to worry about with this recipe!

    1. Prep Crust: Prepare the pie crust by rolling out one crust to place in the bottom of a deep dish 9″ pie dish. Make sure the crust is bigger than the pan dish so there is extra to create a pretty edge when you seal it.
    2. Cook Veggies: Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, and celery. Cook until soft and tender for about 5 minutes. Set aside.
    3. Make Roux: In a large stock pot, melt ¼ cup butter. Stir in the flour and whisk to make a roux. The mixture will look like a paste. This helps to thicken the filling
    4. Whisk Liquids In: Slowly whisk in the chicken broth and milk.
    5. Add Seasonings: Add the lemon juice, salt, pepper, parsley, thyme, nutmeg, and chicken bouillon. Stir frequently until the mixture becomes thick.
    6. Stir in Veggies: Remove from the heat. Then stir in the cooked chicken pieces and veggie mixture.
    7. Taste: Taste and adjust the seasonings or add salt or chicken flavoring if needed.
    8. Add to Crust: Pour the mixture into the crust of the pie dish.
    9. Top with Crust: Roll the remaining pie crust over the top and then pinch the edges shut. Then cut slits in the top of the pie.
    10. Bake: Bake for 1 hour at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, or until golden brown.
    11. Cool and Enjoy: Allow to cool slightly and serve!

Tips for Making Chicken Pot Pie

This absolutely perfect chicken pot pie is one for the recipe book! It is a totally classic recipe, which means there is lots of room to play with the ingredients and the techniques. Try some of these alternative ingredients and substitutions to get the most out of this recipe!

    • Add to the Filling: This is a pretty classic chicken pot pie recipe, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep it that way! You can absolutely add whatever you think would go great in this dish. I think other veggies like mushrooms and potatoes would be incredible. You can also change how you cook the vegetables, like caramelizing the onions first. Yum!
    • Use A Different Protein: You can literally use whatever cooked protein you want in a chicken pot pie. Beef, turkey, ham, and even short ribs are all great options. You can also choose to keep this dish vegetarian by leaving out the protein, or using mushrooms instead.
    • Keep the Edges From Burning: When you are topping your chicken pot pie, make sure the edges of your crust are even or slightly below the center of the pie. You can pat the edges down if they get too tall. This will help to keep them from burning before the chicken pot pie is done. If they start to get too dark, you can cover the edges with aluminum foil.

    Storing Leftovers

Chicken pot pie makes great leftovers! You can also freeze it to have a ready to go meal to pull out at any time. It is a great meal to make to feed your whole family.

    • In the Refrigerator: You can store your leftover chicken pot pie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
    • To Reheat: You can totally reheat the whole thing in the microwave! The sauce doesn’t break and it tastes just as good as when you first made it! You can also reheat it in the oven at 300 until warm in the center.

  • Provoleta

    Provoleta

Provoleta is a traditional Argentine dish made from melted provolone cheese served in a hot skillet. It has a gooey, melted texture with a rich and salty flavor that is perfect for dipping with crusty bread. I’ve added pesto and tomatoes for an extra pop of bubbling flavor. This is one dip you don’t want to miss!

Is there anything better than a cheesy dip? They’re one of my favorite appetizers! You have to try this asiago dip, queso blanco, and three-cheese spinach artichoke dip next. Pair it with some homemade crostini for the most satisfying appetizer.

Baked provolone and grape tomatoes in a small cast-iron skillet.

    Argentina Provoleta

If you’ve never tried provoleta before, prepare to meet your new favorite appetizer. Provoleta is a classic Argentine dish that has been around for generations. Made from melted provolone cheese, this dish is the epitome of comfort food and is sure to satisfy your cheesy cravings! Provoleta can be made in many different ways. You’ll commonly see it topped with things like chimichurri sauce and fresh herbs. I’m serving mine today with grape tomatoes and homemade pesto for a pop of earthy flavor and sweet acidity!

Serve provoleta as an appetizer or main dish, straight from the oven to the table in a sizzling hot skillet. It’s perfect for dipping with crusty bread (crostini or flatbread is perfect!) and is sure to be a hit at any gathering with friends and family. Whether you’re looking for a quick and easy meal or a fun and delicious appetizer, provoleta is the way to go! Trust me, everyone is going to love it. I mean, it’s melted cheese- how could you not?

    Ingredients Needed

This ingredient list is just how I like it, short and sweet! Provoleta is so easy to make, and the simple ingredients are the best! It’s a knockout appetizer that won’t break the bank. Check out the recipe card below for all measurements!

    • Provolone Cheese: Since this is the main focus of the dish, you’ll want to use a high-quality provolone. I used thick-cut slices.
    • Italian Seasoning: Italian seasoning is something I always have on hand and adds the best pop of flavor to any dish. It’s my favorite blend of basil, oregano, rosemary, marjoran, and thyme. (Try making your own blend using my recipe here!) Dried herbs are a must! You can also use fresh chopped herbs for extra flavor. Fresh oregano and parsley are great choices!
    • Pesto: Use your favorite brand or make your own from scratch! It’s super easy and tastes incredible. (I have great recipes for both traditional pesto and creamy pesto!)
    • Grape Tomatoes: These are the perfect size for topping your provoleta with. These get so soft and juicy when broiled, it’s the best!
    • Crostini: (Optional) for dipping! You can also use your favorite crackers, chips, or a sliced baguette. There are so many different options!

    How to Make Provoleta

Making this provoleta recipe is so simple and easy! All you need is a cast iron skillet, provolone cheese, and a few toppings. Then you pop everything in the oven and let it broil until it reaches gooey, bubbly goodness. This has quickly become one of my favorite recipes and I know you’ll love it just as much! It’s so good, you won’t be able to get enough.

    1. Preheat Oven, Add Cheese to Skillet: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Then add the sliced cheese to a small cast-iron pan. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
    2. Add Toppings and Sauces: Top with pesto and grape tomatoes.
    3. Bake: Bake for 15 minutes or until cheese has completely melted and cherry tomatoes blister.
    4. Broil: Then broil the top for 1-2 minutes so it turns brown and bubbly.
    5. Enjoy: Serve immediately with crostini or your favorite crusty bread!

    More Tasty Toppings

Provoleta is so easy to customize. Get creative and add your favorite toppings! Red pepper flakes, fresh minced garlic, or a drizzle of red wine vinegar or extra-virgin olive oil are all great options.

Top-down view of provoleta in a small skillet.

    How Long Does Provoleta Last?

Provoleta should be served immediately after broiling. If not eaten right away, the cheese will start to harden and lose its melty texture. It’s not recommended to store leftover provoleta as it is best enjoyed fresh!

This is the perfect sugar cookie recipe that is still shaped like a heart and will win over your Valentine. It’s really the thought that counts right? That’s why I love these thoughtful cookies that you can write your thoughts onto!

    Ingredients

There are two different groups of ingredients, one for the Valentine’s day sugar cookies and the other is for the icing. If you have never made royal icing before, I share all my tips in the recipe and some extras in the tip box! You will also need a heart-shaped cookie cutter, I like these ones. You can use a ziploc bag for the pastry bag if you need to, but I would recommend a piping tip. I talk more about that in the tip box below. You can find exact measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Flour: I used all purpose flour for this recipe.
    • Salt: A little salt helps to balance the sweet flavors.
    • Baking Powder: This helps the cookies rise.
    • Butter: If your ingredients are at room temperature then they will mix together more smoothly.
    • Granulated Sugar: Granulated sugar will make this recipe sweet.
    • Egg Yolks: This makes the cookie bind together really well and gives it the perfect texture.
    • Sour Cream: It’s amazing! A little sour flavor really makes this cookie taste incredible, and not too sweet.
    • Vanilla Extract: This will enhance the flavors of the sweet ingredients.
    • Lemon Extract: This adds a fresh and bright flavor that you are going to love! You could add fresh lemon juice and zest instead.

    Royal Icing

    • Powdered Sugar: Powdered sugar dissolves really smoothly and makes the frosting taste delicious and sweet.
    • Meringue Powder: This will help the frosting set up to the right stiffness. You can use gelatin or cream of tartar instead, they all do the same thing. However, you will need to use a different amount, so make sure to look up the conversion before substituting.
    • Water: Room temperature is best to help all of the ingredients combine.
    • Gel Food Coloring: You get to choose! I like to use pastel colors, so I don’t add as much coloring. The gel works best because it doesn’t change the consistency of the frosting. Don’t use too much coloring or it will make your frosting taste bitter.
Process photos showing you how to make the dough and cut them out in heart shapes.

    Valentine’s Day Cookies Recipe

Get ready for your new Valentine’s Day cookie tradition! This seriously is one of my new favorite things. Everyone fell in love with the cookies right away because they not only look adorable and really thoughtful, they are also super delicious! This just might be the best sugar cookie recipe I’ve made! There is nothing tricky to this recipe, it’s going to turn out great!

    1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit and line 2-3 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
    2. Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, salt and baking powder. Set aside.
    3. Beat Butter and Sugar: In another medium bowl beat together the butter and sugar for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolks, sour cream and extracts and mix until just combined.
    4. Add Dry to Wet: Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until just barely full combined.
    5. Roll and Shape: This recipe does not require any chilling time for the cookie dough, so you’re ready to roll out your cookies! Split the dough into 2-3 pieces and roll them one at a time on a lightly floured surface until they are ¼ inch thick. Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out your cookies. Press the scraps together and set aside to rest for about 5 minutes. Reroll the scraps and cut more cookies until you have used up all the dough. I used a 3-inch heart and was able to get 18 cookies.
    6. Bake: Place the cookies on the parchment lined cookie sheets leaving 1 ½ inches between them. Bake for 6-8 minutes, rotating the pan at the 4 minute mark. I find this gives the cookies an even bake. The edges will be just set and the cookies will be very light in color and should have very minimal coloring underneath them.
    7. Cool and Frost: Let the Valentine’s Day cookies cool on the pan for 2 minutes for the shape to set before transferring to a cooling rack. You can now store them, or frost them once they have had time to cool.

    Make the Royal Icing

    1. Mix: Using an electric mixer with the whisk attachment, mix the powdered sugar and meringue powder together on low.
    2. Add water: Add 4-5 tablespoons of water and mix together on high speed for about 1 minute. The icing should be pretty stiff. Add additional water 1 tablespoon at a time until the icing is about the consistency of soft serve ice cream and forms soft peaks. Reserve ⅓ cup, roughly, of icing and cover tightly with plastic wrap. This will be for the lettering on the cookies.
    3. Add Color: With the remaining icing, add additional water 1-2 teaspoons at a time until when the whisk is raised the icing drips back into the bowl and the lines of icing take about 10 seconds to melt back into the icing. This is the thin icing that will be used to fill, or flood, your cookies. Separate into small bowls and tint the icing your chosen colors, I chose to use a pastel color pallet of pink, blue, yellow, and purple. Color the reserved stiff frosting red or black for lettering. Now you are ready to ice your Valentine’s Day cookies.
    1. Fill Bag: When ready to ice your Valentine’s day cookies, fill your piping bags with the icing colors and tie off the ends to prevent the icing from overflowing out the top of the bags. Avoid filing them more than ½-⅔ full. Snip the end of the bag just barely, leaving a very small hole to pipe from.
    2. Line and Flood: Use light pressure to trace the outside of the heart, not letting the tip of the bag touch the cookie unless it’s to start or stop piping. Once the outline has been piped, use stronger pressure to fill the center of the cookie. It doesn’t have to be perfect, use a toothpick or a scribe tool to swirl the icing around until all the holes are filled. Let it set and the icing will melt into itself and smooth out. Set aside and let it crust over, at least an hour.
    3. Add Lettering: Snip the very end of the bag of the stiffer frosting for the lettering. Once the base icing has formed a crust, pipe your chosen words onto the cookies. Let the cookies sit overnight or 24 hours to fully dry. They should be uncovered at room temperature. Once the icing is completely dry the cookies can be stacked and stored in an airtight container for up to 7 days.

Piping Tips for Valentine’s Day Cookies

You don’t have to be a pro at piping to end up with super cute Valentine’s Day cookies. If you haven’t ever piped a cookie before, these tips are for you! I will share some of my secrets to help you get the perfect cookies every time.

    • Piping Tip: For these cookies you can either use a very small piping tip, a #1, #1.5, or #2, or you can use a piping bag with the very end snipped off. If you use just a piping bag, snip the very tiniest amount off and test by squeezing a little icing out. If it’s not big enough, cut another tiny bit off the bag until you get the right size. It should be small enough to make a clean line and not curl around the tip of the bag, but not wide enough to pool out of the bag on its own. It’s always best to start very small and work up instead of cutting big and having to get another bag.
    • How to Pipe: Avoid piping right on the edge of the cookie. Once you fill the center with icing, if the outline is piped too close to the edge, the icing can spill over the side of the cookie. If you have never watched anyone ice a cookie with royal icing, now is the time to hop on Youtube for some really helpful tips!

Tips for Making Valentine’s Day Cookies

These Valentine’s Day cookies are more than adorable, they are super tasty too! The sugar cookie bottom is so tasty, and the royal icing can be whatever flavor you like. Here are some more tips to help you when you go to bake them.

    • Don’t Overbake: Don’t over bake the cookies. They should have minimal coloring on the bottom and the tops will be just barely matte.
    • Flavor the Icing: Add what flavoring you would like to the icing, just be aware that if the flavoring has any color it will change the color of it.
    • Keep Icing From Drying Out: Royal icing likes to start drying and forms a crust very quickly. When you are not using a bowl or piping bag, use damp paper towels and plastic wrap to cover them. Wrap bowls in plastic wrap between use and cover the tips of piping bags with a damp paper towel to prevent them from crusting over between using different colors.
    • Let Icing Fully dry: Let the iced cookies sit out overnight to allow the icing to fully set before serving them. Don’t cover them with plastic wrap or place them in a covered container, otherwise the icing will take much longer to set. The icing prevents the cookie from drying out.

    Storing Leftovers

These Valentine’s Day cookies are great for making ahead! They last about a week before they get too dry to eat, and they taste just as yummy. Here are some tips for storing your leftovers.

    • On the Counter: Once the icing is completely dry the cookies can be stacked and stored in an airtight container for up to 7 days.
    • In the Freezer: Unfrosted cookies can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let them thaw completely before icing.
    • Storing Icing: Leftover icing can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Mix well before using.

Split the dough into 2-3 pieces and roll them one at a time on a lightly floured surface until they are ¼ inch thick. Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out your cookies. Press the scraps together and set aside to rest for about 5 minutes. Reroll the scraps and cut more cookies until all the dough has been used. I used a 3-inch heart and was able to get 18 cookies.
    • Place the cookies on the parchment lined cookie sheets leaving 1 ½ inches between them. Bake for 6-8 minutes, rotating the pan at the 4 minute mark. I find this gives the cookies an even bake. The edges will be just set and the cookies will be very light in color and should have very minimal coloring underneath them.
    • Let the cookies cool on the pan for 2 minutes for the shape to set before transferring to a cooling rack. Frost once they are cooled or store in an airtight container until you are ready to frost them.

    Royal Icing

    • Using an electric mixer with the whisk attachment, mix the powdered sugar and meringue powder together on low.
    • Add 4-5 tablespoons of water and mix together on high speed for about 1 minute.
    • With the remaining icing, add additional water 1-2 teaspoons at a time until when the whisk is raised the icing drips back into the bowl and the lines of icing take about 10 seconds to melt back into the icing. This is the thin icing that will be used to fill, or flood, your cookies. Separate into small bowls and tint the icing your chosen colors, I chose to use a pastel color pallet. Color the reserved stiff frosting red or black for lettering.
    • When ready to ice, fill your piping bags with the icing colors and tie off the ends to prevent the icing from overflowing out the top of the bags. Avoid filing them more than ½-⅔ full. Snip the end of the bag just barely, leaving a very small hole to pipe from.
    • Use light pressure to trace the outside of the heart, not letting the tip of the bag touch the cookie unless it’s to start or stop piping.
    • Snip the very end of the bag of the stiffer frosting for the lettering.
