    Easy Shrimp Creole

This easy shrimp creole is my new favorite shrimp dish! I grew up in the north, so these delicious and heartwarming southern dishes are still new to me. As I’ve started branching out and trying new things, I’ve fallen in love with southern cuisine! This recipe originated in Southern Louisiana where gulf shrimp are famous there. I have enjoyed my time in Louisiana and have learned so much about their style of cooking.

Every time I travel I love to try the local foods. Traveling is where I have found some of my favorite recipes like my fish and chips recipe, Chicago-style deep dish pizza, and the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. There is nothing like experiencing life through other people’s food!

    Ingredients

There are so many ingredients you can include in this easy shrimp creole! This is a list of the most basic ingredients, but you could also add bay leaves, thyme, cayenne pepper, cajun seasoning, the list goes on! However you fix it, you are going to love the blend of flavors in this dish. You can find measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Olive Oil: I prefer olive oil for the flavor and it can handle a lot of heat. You can use your favorite oil, or whatever you are used to cooking with
    • Green Bell Pepper: They are a little sweet, and add lots of flavor to this meal. They just get better over time!
    • Onion: They are great at adding lots of flavor to the dish, and help make all of the other flavors in the dish shine.
    • Celery Stalks: I like to cut off the tops and the white ends, and dice them into small pieces. You want them to cook quickly and be the perfect bite size.
    • Garlic Cloves: Fresh garlic adds a sweet and savory flavor. It makes for a great sauce.
    • Stewed Tomatoes: You can buy stewed tomatoes in a can in the canned tomato section. I don’t use a specific brand, and you should be able to find them at your local grocery store.
    • Tomato Sauce: I also buy this from a can.
    • Chicken Broth: You could also use vegetable stock or a shrimp stock.
    • Chili Powder: Chili powder adds a little kick. You can add more if you prefer more spice, or add hot sauce too.
    • Worchestershire Sauce: This sauce makes such an amazing base for any dish.
    • Shrimp: This is the key ingredient!
    • Cornstarch: This helps thicken up the sauce.
    • Water: Helps to make more sauce.
Steps to make Easy Shrimp Creole.

    Easy Shrimp Creole Recipe

I love this easy shrimp creole recipe because it’s one pot that makes such a flavorful and delicious dinner. It’s so tasty with cauliflower rice and garnished with fresh parsley. This is a hearty and filling meal that the whole family will love. The best part is the cleanup is a breeze and the leftovers are incredible.

    1. Add Ingredients: In a medium sized skillet over medium high heat add the olive oil. Then add in bell pepper, onion and celery and then cook until tender.
    2. Cook: Add in stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, chili powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Add shrimp and cover and let simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the shrimp are cooked through. Mix together the cornstarch and water and stir into the sauce and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to let the sauce thicken.

    Tips for Making Shrimp Creole

I think you are going to love making this shrimp creole! It’s simple and delicious, and you only dirty one pot or large skillet. Seriously, easiest clean up and it makes great leftovers! Here are some tips for variations and ways to make it your own.

    • What to Serve It With: We love to serve this shrimp creole with white rice. You can enjoy it with mashed potatoes or a pasta, such as angel hair, if you are looking for something other than rice. It is best garnished with parsley and/or green onions. Lemon also adds a great sweetness and flavor to the overall dish because of the acid in it.
    • Alternative Proteins: If you are looking for other types of meat to serve with this, sausage or catfish are great substitutions. Catfish and shrimp also blend well with this meal.
    • Using Different Stock: If you prefer a more fish-flavored stock, such as shrimp or seafood stock, you can replace the chicken broth for that added flavor.

    Storing Leftovers

Easy shrimp creole makes such good leftovers! The flavors just get better with time. The only thing you have to look out for is not overcooking the shrimp when you reheat it. I like to put it back on the stove and warm it really slowly and definitely don’t let it get too hot.

    • In the Refrigerator: You can keep your leftovers in an airtight container or the pot you cooked it in covered in plastic wrap in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

  • Pesto Salmon

    Pesto Salmon

This website may contain affiliate links and advertising so that we can provide recipes to you. Read my privacy policy.

Pesto Salmon is the BEST salmon you will ever make! Smothered in fresh basil pesto and soaked in roasted tomatoes, this salmon is then baked to perfection for a juicy and tender salmon fillet.

I think salmon is my favorite fish. It’s really simple to make and it’s a great fish to season. If you love salmon like me, you’ve got to try this Salmon Piccata, this sweet and savory Asian Glazed Salmon, or this amazing Garlic Brown Sugar Glazed Salmon.

    Recipe for Salmon with Pesto

Once you try this pesto salmon, you are going to be hooked! I like to use a fresh basil pesto, but there are so many great options at the grocery store too. Salmon is a great fish to try if you are making fish for the first time. The key is to not overcook it! You want the internal temperature to be 135 degrees. It also matters what fillet you choose. There are tips for choosing the best salmon fillet piece in my tips box.

I think that pesto and salmon were made for each other! I love pesto on so many things, like this pesto alfredo chicken casserole and this easy baked pesto chicken. It turns out, I think pesto is my favorite on salmon. It adds such a bright and fresh flavor to the fish, as well as adds moisture. It’s the perfect ingredient!

    Ingredients

These six ingredients come together to make the juiciest and most delicious pesto salmon you’ll ever have! It’s so simple to make and loaded with flavor. All of my kids loved this dish, which is saying something! It’s not fishy at all, and it’s so tender. It just flakes with your fork! It’s actually perfect on top of salads, with rice, or cauliflower rice to keep it lower in carbohydrates! You can find measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Olive Oil: I like to cook my fish in olive oil because it has a great flavor and won’t brown like butter.
    • Salmon Fillet: The key to choosing the best salmon filet is included in the tip box below.
    • Cherry Tomatoes: Cherry tomatoes are really sweet and have acid that helps keep the salmon tender and juicy.
    • Kosher Salt: High quality salt will taste better and make a difference in the dish!
    • Freshly Ground Black Pepper: I like to grind some fresh pepper over the top for a little extra spice.
    • Basil Pesto: This is the key to your pesto salmon! You can make it yourself at home, it’s super simple! Or there are lots of great fresh options at the store too.
Process photos showing the salmon fresh in the pan, and then seared and being topped with pesto.

    Pesto Salmon Recipe

There is nothing tricky about this pesto salmon recipe! It is really easy to cook a perfectly juicy and tender baked salmon fillet with just a few tips. I like to sear the salmon in a skillet and then finish it off in the oven. That way the salmon skin is nice and crispy, but the fillet doesn’t get over done.

    1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. Drizzle: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or cast iron pan.
    3. Pat Dry: Pat the salmon fillet dry with paper towels and then place it in the middle of the skillet.
    4. Add Cherry Tomatoes: Add the cherry tomatoes to the skillet to surround the salmon fillet. Then drizzle the remaining olive oil over the tomatoes and salmon.
    5. Season: Season the salmon and tomatoes with salt and pepper.
    6. Bake: Bake the salmon and tomatoes for about 15 minutes or until the tomatoes start to blister and soften.
    7. Add Pesto: Spread the pesto sauce over the salmon and then continue to bake for an additional 5-8 minutes.
    8. Bake: Bake until it registers 135 degrees Fahrenheit when a thermometer is inserted at the thickest part of the salmon.
    9. Garnish: Garnish with fresh basil and parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
A picture showing how easily the salmon flakes with a fork in the pan.

    Tips for Cooking Pesto Salmon

I absolutely love cooking salmon! It’s a great piece of fish that is healthy and full of nutrients. It also has a mild flavor so all of my family can enjoy it together. Here are a few tips that I’ve picked up over the years of cooking salmon.

    • How to Pick the Right Fillet: Poke it! Sounds weird, but you can actually tell a lot about the quality of the fillet by feeling it. It should be firm and the flesh should spring back. It should not smell at all, and it should have a nice bright pink-orange color. If it is a pale pink, it is not as fresh.
    • Seasoning Your Salmon: The pesto really does most of this for you! It’s the perfect marinade and seasoning all in one. Don’t underestimate how much flavor the tomatoes add either! They are super great at infusing the dish with juicy sweet flavor. Other than those ingredients, all you really need is a little salt and pepper. You could squeeze some fresh lemon juice to finish it off, and then add a little lemon zest to the pesto!
    • What Pan to Use: You could use whatever pan you have on hand. A lot of the time I will choose a cast iron skillet because they heat up really evenly and hold heat really well. You can use a non-stick pan if that’s what you are used to cooking with!

A delicious and flaky pesto salmon fillet in a pan being pulled apart by a fork.

    Storing Leftovers

Pesto salmon is super tasty leftovers! The only tricky part is reheating the salmon without drying it out and overcooking it. Sometimes I will just eat it cold to keep it nice and tender, and it’s great that way!

    • In the Refrigerator: You can store your leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days in the refrigerator.
    • To Reheat: I like to wrap my salmon in parchment paper with butter inside and put it on a pan in an oven preheated to 175 degrees and reheat it as slowly as you can! I know it sounds like a lot of extra work but it will taste exactly like the day you made it.

    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet or cast iron pan.

    • Pat the salmon fillet dry with paper towels and place it in the middle of the skillet.

    • Add the cherry tomatoes to the skillet to surround the salmon fillet. Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the tomatoes and salmon.

    • Season the salmon and tomatoes with salt and pepper.

    • Bake the salmon and tomatoes for about 15 minutes or until the tomatoes start to blister and soften.

    • Spread the pesto sauce over the salmon and continue to bake for an additional 5-8 minutes.

    • Bake until it registers 135 degrees Fahrenheit when a thermometer is inserted at the thickest part of the salmon.

    • Garnish with fresh basil and parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

Oh, the things you can do with rice! Rice is something we all typically have on hand, and can easily be enhanced with just a few simple ingredients. If you’re looking for more side dishes to accompany all of your favorite dinners, try this cilantro lime rice, Greek lemon rice, and Mexican rice! They are all super easy to make and so tasty!

Top-down view of yellow rice in a stoneware bowl, served on top of a wooden board.

Quick and Easy Yellow Rice Recipe

Yellow rice is a side dish commonly found in Spanish, Indian, South African, Mediterranean, and Mexican cuisine. Turmeric gives it its signature color! My take on this recipe is inspired by the Spanish and Mexican versions of the dish. It’s savory and flavorful with a touch of turmeric for a hint of bright, peppery spice. The whole family is going to love it. With how easy it is to make, you’ll love it too!

Cook the basmati rice in chicken broth with butter, onion and garlic powder for the perfect rich and savory flavor. As the yellow rice cooks, it absorbs all of the delicious flavor! It’s soft and buttery and perfect for serving up with some chicken and shrimp! Yellow rice works alongside any entrée, really. It has a really versatile flavor! The options are endless. Use it in lettuce wraps, burrito bowls, alongside pork chops, roasted chicken, you name it! If you’re not already convinced, yellow rice also makes great leftovers. It’s perfect for heating up and reusing!

What is Yellow Rice Made of?

This recipe will change slightly depending on the region it’s from, but here’s what I used! It’s sooo simple! I found everything needed to make it in my pantry. Check out the recipe card below for exact measurements!

    • Butter: Adds richness and flavor to the yellow rice. You can also use olive oil or ghee!
    • Basmati Rice: I used basmati rice to keep this recipe more on the traditional side, but long-grain white or brown rice also work! Long-grain jasmine rice is another great option.
    • Water: For cooking the rice in. You can also use chicken broth.
    • Chicken Bouillon: Chicken bouillon is a must-add because it packs so much flavor into each bite. You can use either paste or powder here. If you don’t have any chicken bouillon on hand, you can also use chicken broth. Use it in place of the water.
    • Garlic and Onion Powder: Both add the perfect savory flavor to this yellow rice!
    • Kosher Salt: Adjust to taste. I prefer using kosher salt over regular table salt because it doesn’t have a bitter aftertaste.
    • Ground Turmeric: Time to break out that spice rack! A touch of turmeric gives this rice its gorgeous yellow color and also adds flavor.

It only takes 20 minutes to make yellow rice from start to finish! It’s such an easy side dish. Perfect for serving up with Instant Pot lemon chicken! You’ll have dinner ready in less than 30 minutes. With how good it tastes, no one will know!

    1. Heat Butter: Heat the butter or oil in a large pot over medium heat.
    2. Add Cooked Rice: Pour the rice into the pan then stir to coat the rice well with the melted butter. Then cook and stir for about 2 minutes.
    3. Add Seasonings: Next add the water, chicken bouillon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and turmeric. Stir until combined and then bring to a boil.
    4. Cover and Simmer: Reduce the heat to a simmer and then cover the pot with a lid.
    5. Cook: Allow the rice to simmer for about 12-15 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and plump.
    6. Serve: Fluff with a fork, then transfer the rice to a bowl and serve.

    More Add-Ins

This yellow rice is my go-to side dish for busy weeknights. Because it’s so simple, you can easily customize it with a few extra ingredients! Feel free to tweak the flavor to your liking.

    • Add Vegetables: If you want your yellow rice to have more texture, add peas, chopped onion, scallions, carrots, or bell peppers.
    • Fruit and Nuts: South African yellow rice is traditionally made with golden raisins. This is a great way to add a little texture and a touch of sweetness as well! Another great addition is pine nuts if you like a bit of crunch.
    • More Spices: A pinch of chili powder, cumin or cinnamon is a great addition to the flavor of yellow rice!

    Storing Leftovers

You can reuse yellow rice in so many different dishes! To keep it fresh and ready to use throughout the week, you will want to make sure it’s in an airtight container in the fridge.

    • In the Refrigerator: Store leftover yellow rice in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave with a little water or chicken broth added.

Use leftover yellow rice as a side for your favorite chicken, pork, or seafood dishes!

    Can Yellow Rice Be Frozen?

Yes it can! It’s a great option for meal prep. Transfer rice to a Ziploc bag and then store in the freezer for 2-3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before use and then reheat as normal. I always like to reheat my yellow rice in a skillet with a touch of butter and chicken broth to add moisture back in.

  • Oatmeal Fig Bars

    Oatmeal Fig Bars

So much better than store bought and so fun to make, these oatmeal fig bars are sweet and salty and everything you hope they would be! The sticky fig jam is sandwiched between two delicious layers of oatmeal crumble and crust. You really can’t beat this sweet treat!

I love buying fig bars from the store, especially around the holidays, so I thought I should make them at home. Let me tell you, they were a total hit! They are definitely joining the holiday lineup of my favorite treats. If you want some other ideas for great holiday and winter treats, you’ve got to try these Red Velvet White Chocolate Chip Cookies, this delicious Fruit Cake, and these cute Snowball Cookies.

    Fig Oatmeal Bars

I recently tried figgy pudding for the first time ( I know, where have I been this whole time?!) and it was amazing! I absolutely loved the flavor of the figs, and I realized that fig is the perfect base for a dessert. We actually included a delicious fig and grapefruit cheese on a charcuterie board that absolutely divine, and I realized I needed more figs in my life. So I thought a great new dessert to try would be these fig oatmeal bars!

If you have never had an oatmeal fig bar, it’s kind of like a granola bar meets a linzer cookie. It is seriously the best thing ever! If you have ever had a fig newton, then this dessert is really similar! It is the perfect dessert for anyone who loves oats and a dessert that doesn’t leave you feeling too heavy afterwards. I am seriously obsessed with these oatmeal fig bars!

    Ingredients in Oatmeal Fig Bars

Don’t be fooled by the number of ingredients, most of them repeat a few times for this oatmeal fig bar recipe! The crust on the top and bottom are not very different in ingredients, they just need to be prepared differently. The top is more like a crumble where you need cold butter to help ingredients clump together. The bottom is more like a traditional oatmeal crust. You can find the measurements below in the recipe card.

    Filling

    • Dried Figs: Dried figs are a must for this oatmeal fig bars recipe. Fresh ones will not work the same! If you are wondering where to get dried figs, I totally get it because I didn’t remember seeing them at the grocery store until I looked for them! I found them in the dried fruit section of my grocery store. If you don’t have any luck there are lots of options online.
    • Water: This is to help rehydrate the figs and to make the sauce.
    • Orange Juice: I love to add orange juice because it has acid in it which really brightens up the filling.
    • Vanilla Extract: I add just a bit of vanilla to bring out all the flavors in the figs.

    Crust

    • Butter: Butter helps everything hold together and adds fat, which makes the crust so amazing.
    • Brown Sugar: I like to use brown sugar because it has a deeper flavor than granulated sugar because of the molasses.
    • Egg: Egg will help the crust hold together for these oatmeal fig bars.
    • Rolled Oats: I love the texture and flavor of oats in the crust. It also adds extra fiber and balances out this dessert.
    • All-Purpose Flour: I like to use it because it’s what I have on hand. You could use whole wheat flour in this recipe.
    • Baking Powder: Baking powder helps the crust from becoming too dense and hard.
    • Ground Cinnamon: A little pop of cinnamon in the crust really brings the whole dessert together!
    • Ground Nutmeg: I like to add nutmeg along with cinnamon because they are the perfect pair, and go great with figs!
    • Salt: A little salt in the crust helps to bring out all of the amazing flavors and keeps it from getting too sweet.

    Topping

    • Rolled Oats: This is key to a nice and crumbly topping for your oatmeal fig bars. It sticks to the butter and becomes little nuggets of goodness all over this treat.
    • Butter: You will want to keep this butter cold and cube it. When the butter is cold it crumbles instead of blends together, which is how you get the oats to clump the way you want them to.
    • All-Purpose Flour: It’s easy to work with, and helps the oats come together in a great texture.
    • Brown Sugar: I like to use brown sugar because of the molasses, and it adds lots of flavor to the crumble.
    • Granulated Sugar: A little sweetness helps to bring this whole treat together.
    • Salt: I like to add salt to the topping too so it doesn’t get too sweet.
    • Ground Cinnamon: Cinnamon in the crust and the topping is the perfect way to bring the whole treat full circle. It’s so amazing!

    Oatmeal Fig Bars Recipe

You will make this oatmeal fig bar in three steps. You will prepare the filling, the crust, and the crumble. Then you put it all together and bake! It’s a little bit of a labor of love but oh my goodness is it worth it! This is a great recipe to make for special occasions. It’s a huge hit and a really unique dessert that I think everyone will love.

    Filling

    1. Cook Filling: In a medium saucepan, combine the dried figs, water, and orange juice. Over medium heat, and stirring occasionally, cook the mixture for about 10-12 minutes. The figs should be soft and have absorbed some of the liquid.
    2. Blend: Remove from heat and mix in the vanilla, then allow to cool for 15 minutes. Pour mixture into a blender or food processor and blend until the mixture is smooth and no chunks remain. Set aside
    3. Prep Pan: At this point, prepare an 8 inch square baking dish by spraying it with cooking spray and set aside, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

    Crust

    1. Whisk: In a large bowl, using a hand mixer, whisk together melted butter, sugar, and egg. In a separate bowl whisk together oats, flour, baking powder, and spices.
    2. Add Dry Ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. The mixture will become hard to mix with a whisk, you may want to switch to a large spoon or spatula to finish mixing
    3. Add Crust to Pan: Spread your crust evenly into your prepared pan, pack down slightly to even it out.

    Topping

    1. Pulse: In a food processor, add all your ingredients and pulse until all the ingredients are well mixed and no chunks of butter or patches of dry ingredients should remain.

    Put It All Together

    1. Add Ingredients and Bake: Spread your fig filling evenly over the top of your crust lined pan, sprinkle the topping over the top of the filling and bake in your pre heated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the top is an even golden brown.
    2. Enjoy: Enjoy fresh or keep at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a week.

Tips for Making Oatmeal Fig Bars

This oatmeal fig bar is so tasty as is, but don’t be afraid to switch things up. Putting your own spin on food is what makes it so fun! If you are going to experiment with different versions of this recipe, here are some tips for you.

    • Whole Wheat Flour: You can use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour if you want to! Because it’s a crumbly texture on top and has oats, either flour will work great.
    • Using Fresh Figs: I really don’t recommend using fresh figs! The dried figs cook down perfectly to make a jam like filling. The fresh ones do not! I would stick to dried figs for the best results.
    • Other Fillings: I haven’t tried this recipe with different fillings, but I don’t see why dried dates or raisins wouldn’t work great! I’m sure you could use the same amount of chopped dates or raisins and cook them in the same way you would the figs.

    Storing Leftover Oatmeal Fig Bars

These oatmeal fig bars make great leftovers! They are really easy to freeze too, and they are a great make-ahead recipe. Here is how to handle your leftover fig bars.

    • In the Refrigerator: You can store your fig bars covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
    • In the Freezer: Cover and store your fig bars in the freezer for up to two months.

    Amazingly Delicious Skillet Salisbury Steak

I’m always looking for recipes that are easy and require little clean up. This skillet Salisbury steak is that and more! Tender steaks drowning in a rich brown mushroom and onion gravy. It’s ready in just 30 minutes and is sure to please the entire family! You’ll want to make it again and again.

The delicious meat patties get those nice crisp pan-seared edges but are so tender on the inside. Honestly though, my favorite part is the rich brown gravy. It’s so flavorful and perfect for topping some mashed potatoes with! Since this recipe only takes 30 minutes to make, you’ll want to pair it with these Instant Pot mashed potatoes. They’re ready in 15 minutes and complete the meal so well!

What is the Difference Between Salisbury Steak and Hamburger Steak?

A Salisbury steak contains more fillers such as breadcrumbs, sauces, onions and an egg whereas a hamburger steak only contains salt and pepper. They are very similar and may not have a difference at all depending on the recipe itself. A Salisbury steak can be served on its own or with other sides to make it a meal. They are very similar and both commonly served with a gravy mixture.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

You really don’t need a lot to put these skillet Salisbury steaks together. They’re so simple but packed with flavor! The full list of ingredients with measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

    • Ground Beef: To form the Salisbury steaks with. You can also use ground turkey if you want a leaner option.
    • Breadcrumbs: I love adding breadcrumbs to the steaks because it gives them the best texture!
    • Ketchup: Adds flavor and moisture to the patty mixture.
    • Worcestershire Sauce: Enhances the meaty, savory flavor of the steaks.
    • Mustard Powder: For a hint of tangy flavor!
    • Egg: Helps to bind all of the ingredients together.
    • Salt and Pepper: Add an extra layer of seasoning. You can also use seasoning salt.
    • Butter: For cooking the patties in. It also infuses them with flavor.

    Mushroom Gravy

    • Olive Oil: You will use this to cook the mushrooms and sliced onion in.
    • Mushrooms: Regular brown mushrooms work great!
    • Large Onion: Sliced onion infuses this dish with so much savory flavor. If you don’t want the flavor to be too overpowering, go for a sweet onion.
    • Beef Broth: Acts as the base of the gravy.
    • Ketchup: Adds extra flavor and substance to the gravy.
    • Worcestershire Sauce: Adds an extra pop of tangy, savory flavor!
    • Cornstarch: Thickens up the gravy. You can also use flour as a substitute.
    • Water: Use to adjust the consistency.

If you would like to roast your vegetables at the same time, add them into the pan with the steak and gravy. What to Serve with Salisbury Steaks

I love to serve Salisbury steak with potatoes, noodles or even rice. Pork Wontons

Skip the takeout and make these irresistible pork wontons at home! They’re soft and juicy and filled with mouthwatering seasoned pork. You won’t be able to stop at one!

I love recreating my favorite Chinese takeout dishes at home. It helps me save money and tastes better in my opinion! Try this slow cooker General Tso’s chicken, this foolproof egg drop soup, or easy fried rice next! (You can even make them to go along with your homemade pork wontons!)

Top-down view of boiled wontons served on a white plate with soy sauce.

    Crispy Pork Wontons

Wontons are ALWAYS on my list whenever I order Chinese takeout. Don’t get me wrong, crab rangoons and cream cheese wontons will forever hold a place in my heart, but there’s something about pork wontons and soup dumplings that is SO irresistible. Now, as we all know, takeout can get pricey so here’s a quick, easy, and cost-effective way to get your wonton fix all in the comfort of your kitchen!

Not only do they taste amazing, but these amazing pork wontons are so simple to make. They’re fun to put together, too! My girls love filling each wonton wrapper with the pork mixture. It’s a labor of love! Once you have a batch of these soft, flavorful pork wontons ready to eat, serve them up with some sweet chili sauce or potsticker sauce for an appetizer everyone will LOVE!

What You’ll Need to Make Them

Making delicious pork wontons only takes a handful of simple ingredients! You may need to make a stop at your local Asian grocer for the sesame oil and rice vinegar, but you can usually find these in the Asian section of grocery stores as well. You can also find them online! I’ve linked my favorite kinds below. Note: exact measurements can all be found below in the recipe card.

    • Ground Pork: You can’t go wrong with pork wontons and dumplings. They’re just so tasty! You can also swap this out for ground turkey if you want something leaner.
    • Ground Ginger: Adds a bright, peppery flavor.
    • Garlic Powder: For the perfect savory flavor. Minced garlic also works!
    • Chopped Green Onion: Adds a pop of sharp, savory flavor.
    • Salt: Boosts the flavor of the meat mixture.
    • Sesame Oil: I love cooking with sesame oil because it adds the best nuttiness!
    • Rice Vinegar: This helps to balance out flavors and adds a bit of tang as well.
    • Soy Sauce: A must-add for salty, savory flavor! Hoisin sauce works, too!
    • Wonton Wrappers: I used small, square wrappers to keep these wontons bite-sized.

    How to Make Pork Wontons

Not only are homemade wontons super delicious, but they’re fun to make too! There’s something so satisfying about folding up each wonton, it’s like origami! Making a batch of these is the perfect way to complete any Chinese-inspired meal!

    1. Pork Mixture: Add the pork, ginger powder, garlic powder, green onion, salt, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and soy sauce to a large bowl. Mix until the ingredients are combined.
    2. Add to Wrapper: Place 1 teaspoon of the pork mince in the middle of a wrapper.
    3. Fold: Dip your finger in a bowl of water and run it along the edges of the wonton wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the meat mixture to form a triangle. Seal the wet edges together.
    4. Seal: Fold the two bottom corners in and seal them with water pressing firmly.
    5. Repeat: Cover with a damp paper towel and repeat the steps to form all 40 wontons.
    6. Boil Water: When you’re ready to cook the wontons, put 6 cups of water into a pot and bring the water to a boil.
    7. Add Wontons: When the water comes to a boil, place 6-8 wontons into the boiling water.
    8. Check if Cooked: When the wontons float to the top, the wontons should be cooked. You can check the inside of one of them to make sure the meat is fully cooked.
    9. Remove: Take them out gently with a strainer and serve them hot with a drizzle of soy sauce.
    10. Repeat: Repeat the cooking process with the rest of the wontons until they’re all cooked.

    Tips and Extra Mix-Ins

If you love pork wontons as much as I do, here are some fun switch ups to implement for your next batch! The beauty of making wontons at home is that you can customize the flavor however you’d like!

    • Adding More Flavor to Your Pork Mixture: Want to switch up the flavor of your filling? Try adding a tablespoon of oyster sauce for a pop of sweet but salty flavor! If you want your wontons to have some kick, you can also add a drizzle of sriracha or a dash of red pepper flakes. If you want a touch of peppery flavor without the wontons being too spicy, you can also add some cracked white pepper to the mix.
    • Serve With: Serving your homemade wontons with some tasty sauce is all part of the experience! Soy sauce or potsticker sauce is always a must, but if you’re looking for something different try this yum yum sauce or peanut sauce! I love them both because they add a creamy nuttiness that tastes absolutely divine with these savory, juicy wontons.

    Closeup of pork wontons.

How Long Do Homemade Pork Wontons Last?

These always get devoured by my family whenever I make them. But if you’re lucky enough to have some leftover, you will want to keep them refrigerated for best results.

    • In the Refrigerator: Store pork wontons in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
    • Reheating: I recommend reheating your wontons in the microwave for a minute or two with a sprinkle of water over top so they don’t dry out. You can also reheat your wontons in a skillet with a little bit of water added at medium-low heat.

If you have leftover pork wontons, they’re great for using in homemade wonton soup! It’s the perfect meal for chilly days.

    Freezing Pork Wontons

Good news! You can keep uncooked pork wontons in the freezer to enjoy whenever you have a craving for soft, meaty morsels of goodness!

    • In the Freezer: Store uncooked wontons in a freezer bag or airtight container for 2-3 months. If you’re storing a lot of wontons, I would add a piece of parchment paper between layers so they don’t stick together. When you’re ready to make them, let them thaw in the fridge and then cook them in boiling water!

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound ground pork
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 2 stalks green onion, chopped
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
    • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    • 40 small square wonton wrappers

    Instructions

    • Add the pork, ginger powder, garlic powder, green onion, salt, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and soy sauce to a large bowl. Mix until the ingredients are combined.
    • Place 1 teaspoon of the meat mixture in the middle of a wrapper.
    • Dip your finger in a bowl of water and run it along the edges of the wonton wrapper. Fold the wrapper over the meat mixture to form a triangle. Seal the wet edges together.
    • Fold the two bottom corners in and seal them with water pressing firmly.
    • Cover with a damp paper towel and repeat the steps to form all 40 wontons.
    • When you're ready to cook the wontons, put 6 cups of water into a pot and bring the water to a boil.
    • When the water comes to a boil, place 6-8 wontons into the boiling water.
    • When the wontons float to the top, the wontons should be cooked. You can check the inside of one of them to make sure the meat is fully cooked.
    • Take them out gently with a strainer and serve them hot with a drizzle of soy sauce.
    • Repeat the cooking process with the rest of the wontons until they're all cooked.

    Honey Garlic Butter Scallops

Honey garlic butter scallops are a total game-changer! I made a shrimp recipe that had this same marinade on top of it (sticky honey garlic butter shrimp) and I thought the only thing that could top that recipe would be to put the marinade on scallops. It was seriously one of the best dishes I have ever had. My whole family agreed! It was a total hit, and I can’t wait to make it again.

I like to eat my scallops with a side of rice, and I always make this easy instant pot rice recipe. They go so perfectly together! I also can’t resist perfectly cooked air fryer broccoli. With that honey garlic marinade on top of all of it, it’s the perfect dish!

    Ingredients

I think you are going to love the ingredients in these honey garlic butter scallops! They are simple and fresh, and really make a flavor combination that even the pickiest eater will love. They are sweet and savory, soft and delicious. You can find the full measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Honey: This is key, this is what makes them all sticky and golden. They are absolutely delicious with a caramelized outside!
    • Soy Sauce: Soy sauce adds a lot of flavor that balances out the sweetness of the honey.
    • Garlic: Garlic is the perfect ingredient to tie all of the flavors together in this dish. It’s savory and a little sweet, and full of amazing flavor.
    • Lemon Juice: I love to add a little lemon juice to brighten the dish up and help all of the ingredients shine.
    • Scallops: Choosing the right scallops is key. You want to find some that are firm and dry, and when you press on them it should feel like a pork chop. Definitely don’t get a shiny or soft one, they will not be as good.
    • Butter: I like to cook my scallops in butter. I just think it tastes the best!
    • Green Onion: Garnish your scallops with some green onions after they are done cooking. It adds a pop of fresh flavor!

    Honey Garlic Butter Scallops Recipe

Honey garlic butter scallops are something you don’t want to overcook! But they aren’t hard to make, so there’s no reason to be nervous. When they are cooked perfectly, they are absolutely delish! I swear there is nothing better than a perfectly cooked scallop.

    1. Marinate: In a small bowl whisk honey, soy sauce, garlic and lemon. Add half of the sauce to the shrimp and let marinate for 30 minutes.
    2. Sear and Garnish: In a medium sized skillet add the butter. Then add the scallops and set aside the marinade. Season with salt and pepper. Then turn the heat to medium high. Sear scallops for 3- 3½ minutes on each side until they are golden brown on each side. Then add the reserved marinade and pour over the scallops. Cook until the sauce starts to thicken and coats the scallops. Garnish with green onions.

    Tips for Making Scallops

If you have never made scallops before, this honey garlic butter scallop recipe is for you! It’s a great way to get lots of flavor into the scallops. It’s sure to be a hit at your house.

    • Searing Scallops: Scallops are really delicate meat. They get rubbery if you cook them for too long. The key to a perfectly cooked scallop is to not move them around in the pan. You should put them in a hot pan, and they only take a few minutes to cook. You want them to be golden brown but not overdone. Trust me, an overcooked scallop is a huge disappointment. So trust your gut!
    • Honey Garlic Butter Marinade: I like to add sesame seeds to my marinade because it pairs perfectly with soy sauce. You can add any other ingredients you like! I love how you get to turn the marinade into a delicious sticky sauce. It’s so good poured over the top of the rice and veggies too.
    • Best Pan to Use: If you have a cast iron skillet, this is the time to use it. They retain heat really well and they preheat great. You can use any pan, but it’s best to use a heavy-bottomed one if you don’t have a cast iron. Make sure the butter is hot before adding the scallops.

    Storing Leftovers

Honey garlic butter scallops make great leftovers! The hardest part is actually reheating them without overcooking them. I like to melt some butter in a pan and then slowly reheat in a pan for 1-2 minutes. Then cover the pan with foil and let it rest for a few more minutes. They won’t be rubbery!

    • In the Refrigerator: You can store your scallops in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    • In a small bowl whisk honey, soy sauce, garlic and lemon. Add half of the sauce to the scallops and let marinate for 30 minutes.

    • In a medium sized skillet at the butter. Add the scallops and set aside the marinade. Season with salt and pepper. Turn the heat to medium high. Sear scallops for 3- 3½ minutes on each side until they are golden brown on each side. Add the reserved marinade to the skillet. Cook until the sauce starts to thicken and add scallops back in to coat. Garnish with green onions.

    Mini Oreo Cheesecake Bites

With how amazing these mini Oreo cheesecakes look, they really don’t need an introduction. But let me just say- you need these in your life right now. Oreo cheesecake is one of my all-time favorite desserts, but it’s even better in bite-sized form. Speaking from experience, you start with one and then want to eat the whole pan. They are just too good!

These mini Oreo cheesecakes have a buttery, crumbly Oreo crust (swoon) and a luscious, creamy cheesecake filling that is going to rock your world. It only takes 30 minutes to prepare both and then it’s off to the oven! Bring these to your next potluck and everyone will love you. They are one of my family’s favorite treats!

    Ingredients Needed

The best thing about these Oreo cheesecake bites is that you don’t need any complicated ingredients to make them. As long as you have a leftover pack of Oreos in your pantry, you might just have all of the other ingredients to whip these up! *Note: exact measurements can be found below in the recipe card.

    Oreo Crust

    • Oreo Cookie Crumbs: These will be packed into the cupcake liners to create the crust.
    • Melted Butter: Adds rich flavor and helps the crust stick together.
    • Sugar: White sugar works fine here! Add some in to sweeten up the crust.
    • Salt: Boosts the overall flavor.

    Oreo Cheesecake

    • Cream Cheese: Use room temperature cream cheese to make sure everything mixes together smoothly.
    • Sour Cream: I love adding sour cream to baked goods because it makes them so moist and tender! Greek yogurt also works as a substitute.
    • Sugar: Granulated sugar adds sweetness to the mini cheesecakes.
    • Vanilla Extract: Helps to deepen the flavor of the mini Oreo cheesecakes.
    • Large Eggs: Act as your binding agent.
    • Crushed Oreo Cookies: Pack delicious chocolatey flavor in each bite.
    • Whole Oreos: (Optional) For topping! You can also add a dollop of whipped cream. It gives these mini Oreo cheesecakes the best presentation!

How to Make Oreo Cheesecake Bites

Traditional cheesecake can be tricky to make! (It’s so worth it though! I have a great cheesecake recipe here if you’re up for the challenge.) But these mini Oreo cheesecakes are foolproof! No water bath, no fuss, just add your cheesecake mixture to the cupcake liners and bake!

    1. Preheat Oven, Prep Pan: Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a muffin pan by lining each cup with a cupcake liner.
    2. Crust Mixture: In a bowl, combine your Oreo crumbs, butter, and sugar and salt. Then mix until well combined and pack the crust evenly into each cupcake liner firmly. Bake for 5 minutes. Then remove from oven and set aside.
    3. Cheesecake Filling: In a separate bowl, using a hand mixer, beat together the cream cheese and sour cream until smooth and well combined. Add in your sugar, vanilla, and eggs and beat until smooth. Add in your crushed Oreos and mix until just combined.
    4. Bake: Pour your filling into each prepared cupcake about ¾ full. Bake for 16-20 minutes, until the cheesecakes are set in the middle.
    5. Chill: Remove from oven and let rest at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or overnight.
    6. Add Toppings: Garnish mini Oreo cheesecakes with an Oreo and enjoy!

Tips for Making the Best Mini Oreo Cheesecakes

These mini Oreo cheesecakes are the BEST! They’ll be a hit wherever they go! These are a few extra tips and tricks to get your mini Oreo cheesecakes tasting absolutely divine. You won’t be able to get enough!

    • Remove Oreo Filling: Be sure when you are making the crust and the crushed Oreos for the inside of the cakes, you remove the filling from the Oreos. The filling can alter the texture and keep your mini cheesecakes from turning out properly.
    • Allow Time to Chill: This recipe is so simple and quick to make, just be sure you give yourself enough time to allow them to cool completely before enjoying. I recommend making them the night before they are intended to be eaten!
    • Swap Out Oreos: You can play around with different flavors by swapping out traditional Oreos for other varieties. I think golden Oreos, lemon Oreos, and peanut butter Oreos would taste amazing in this recipe!

    Storing Leftovers

Lucky you if you have leftovers! These mini Oreo cheesecakes are always gone in a snap at my house. My girls are fiends for anything cookies and cream. Here’s how you can keep your cheesecake bites tasting fresh and delicious!

    • In the Refrigerator: These mini Oreo cheesecake bites will stay good in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
    • In the Freezer: You can also freeze your leftovers! Pop them in a freezer bag and store for 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.

    Ingredients

The ingredients for chicken fajitas are really straightforward! Super simple to pick up from the grocery store and you will have a delicious meal ready in under 30 minutes. I like the fact that the chicken is cut up into small pieces which makes everything cook faster. This is a simple and easy meal! You can find the full measurements below in the recipe card.

    Sizzling Chicken Fajita

    • Olive Oil: I like to use olive oil to cook my ingredients because I love the flavor and it’s a healthy oil choice. You could use vegetable oil, or whatever oil you wanted.
    • Chicken: You will need 3 lbs of chicken breast or thigh. I like to cut them up into pieces that are the perfect size for one bite. If they are too big they will be harder to eat out of the tortilla.
    • Fajita Seasoning: I really love to make my own blend of fajita seasoning because it’s so fresh and delicious that way. It’s a mix of spices you probably already have in your pantry, and it’s totally worth making.
    • Bell Peppers: I like to buy a variety of red, green, and yellow bell peppers. They all taste delicious and make the dish look really inviting.
    • Onions: Sauteed onions are the best in fajitas! They add tons of flavor and extra texture. They also add a lot of flavor to the chicken.

    For Serving

    • Flour Tortillas: Flour tortillas are the best for chicken fajitas if you ask me! I like to make my own tortillas when I have the time. You can also buy them from the store.
    • Avocado: Fresh avocado sliced on top of a fajita is seriously a game-changer! Once you try it you’ll never go back.
    • Limes: I love to serve lime wedges to squeeze on top. It’s the perfect way to brighten up the dish and it helps to bring out all of the amazing flavors.
    • Cilantro: Fresh cilantro on top is optional. I know it’s not for everyone! For those of you who like it, feel free to use some on top after you finish assembling your fajita.

    Chicken Fajita Recipe

There’s nothing to these sizzling chicken fajitas! It’s as easy as cooking your ingredients in a skillet, and serving up some delicious fajitas. I’ve listed other ingredients you might want to include like lime, tortillas, and cilantro. You can serve them with whatever your heart desires!

    1. Cook Chicken: In a large skillet over medium high heat, add the olive oil and chicken. Sprinkle half of the fajita seasoning on the chicken and cook until no longer pink. Set chicken aside on a plate.
    2. Cook Vegetables: Add the bell peppers, and onion. Sprinkle remaining fajita seasoning on top. Sauté until they are tender. Add chicken back to the skillet and stir until heated through.
    3. Enjoy: Serve in tortillas and use desired toppings.

What to Serve Sizzling Chicken Fajitas With

I cook for my kids who are older now and want at least 3 fajitas each! I like to load up their plates with other delicious sides so that we don’t go through ten pounds of chicken in one sitting! Here are a few ideas for what you can cook up with your sizzling chicken fajitas.

    • Rice: Whether you like it stuffed inside your fajita or in between bites, rice is a must at our house! I really like to make cilantro lime rice because it goes perfectly with everything in the fajita.
    • Beans: Beans are a great way to get full without eating tons of meat. They are perfect refried or whole straight from the can if that’s all you have time for. Kidney beans and pinto beans are a great choice, but you know your family best. Just serve what they want to eat!
    • Fresh Salsa: Fresh salsa adds SO much flavor to fajitas! Not to mention a little kick if you like that sort of thing! This blender salsa is a great recipe to whip up when you want homemade salsa in no time.
    • Cheese Dip: I am in love with chips and dip! Another easy way to add variety to your meal, and make it feel like a full restaurant experience is to serve a cheese dip! Queso blanco and my chili queso are probably the most requested!

A hand holding a tortilla filling it with chicken and vegetables with a fork.

    Storing Leftovers

It is easiest to store your leftovers in groups. I like to store any fresh toppings together, and then store the fajita mix on its own. Keep the tortillas in their package and you have a meal ready to whip up again in minutes!

    • In the Refrigerator: Store your leftover chicken fajitas in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    For Serving:

    • In a large skillet over medium high heat, add the olive oil and chicken. Sprinkle half of the fajita seasoning on the chicken and cook until no longer pink. Set chicken aside on a plate.

    • Add the bell peppers, and onion. Sprinkle remaining fajita seasoning on top. Sauté until they are tender. Add chicken back to the skillet and stir until heated through.

    • Serve in tortillas and use desired toppings.
