Thai Basil Chicken is a quick and easy chicken dinner that is bursting with fresh flavors. Bell peppers, fresh basil, and a unique blend of sauces make this chicken so crave-able!

Chicken dinners are a common thing at my house. Chicken is inexpensive, easy to cook, and a great way to fill bellies on a budget. If you are looking for more chicken dinner inspiration, you’ve got to try this simple Crockpot Tuscan Chicken, this amazing Baked Honey Sesame Chicken, and this Cashew Chicken.

    Thai Basil Chicken Recipe

Are you getting tired of the same old flavors when it comes to your chicken meals? This Thai basil chicken recipe takes just 30 minutes and is so full of flavor you won’t believe it’s chicken breast! Of course you can use whatever part of the chicken you prefer. I love the taste of this dish so much, especially served with jasmine rice or coconut rice. It’s just as good as a Thai restaurant, for less than half the cost!

When you order this dish at a Thai restaurant, it’s called Pad Krapow Gai. This dish is made with red bell peppers, but you can serve it with other vegetables like air fryer frozen broccoli or garlic edamame. You can add a fried egg to make this dish extra filling and flavorful. It’s basically a chicken stir fry so add whatever you think would taste good! The more you add to the pan, the more flavors combine to make a delicious dish.

    Ingredients

This Thai basil chicken is a simple recipe that you really can’t get wrong. These ingredients are simple and straightforward. If you can get the ingredients from an Asian market, the dish will taste much more traditional. You can find the measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Chicken Breasts: You can use chicken thighs, or even ground turkey instead.
    • Canola Oil: You can use vegetable oil instead. This is for cooking the chicken and veggies.
    • Shallot: They are a subtle flavor but add so much flavor to the chicken.
    • Red Peppers: Sweet bell peppers are the perfect thing to make with the chicken.
    • Thai Chili, or Serrano Pepper: A little heat really takes this dish to the next level! I think it tastes great with Thai chili or serrano chilis, so grab whatever you can find and it will be perfect.
    • Soy Sauce: This is a fermented soy bean sauce that is salty and so full of flavor.
    • Oyster Sauce: This is a sweet and salty sauce made mostly from oyster juices.
    • Fish Sauce: Fish sauce has a little fish flavor, but mostly it is salty and very umami.
    • Brown Sugar: A little brown sugar makes the sauce the perfect consistency and helps balance the sweetness.
    • Thai Basil: Thai holy basil is the type of basil that you will want to grab. You should be able to find it at your local Asian market.

    Recipe for Thai Basil Chicken

I love how simple it is to make this Thai basil chicken. If you have a wok, this is a great recipe to make in it. It also works great in a skillet or cast iron pan. Whatever you use, make sure to heat the oil first before adding the chicken. Basil is a really fragile ingredient, so make sure you add it in after turning off the burner.

    1. Cook Chicken: Add the oil to the wok and heat over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 3-5 minutes until almost cooked through.
    2. Add Veggies: Add the minced garlic, shallots, and peppers. Stir fry until fork tender but still crisp.
    3. Whisk Sauce: To make the sauce, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar in a bowl. Whisk to combine.
    4. Add Sauce: Add the sauce and stir fry until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken.
    5. Add Basil: Turn off the heat and toss in the basil, reserving a few leaves for garnish. The heat will soften and wilt the basil leaves.
    6. Enjoy: Serve immediately with rice. Garnish with fresh basil leaves. Enjoy!

Tips for Making Thai Basil Chicken

Making Thai basil chicken is really simple and so delicious. Here are a few tips for making this dish authentic and just the way you and your family like it!

    • Ground Turkey: This dish is often made with ground turkey. Use ground turkey or ground chicken instead of chicken breast. You can also make a ground beef dish (Thai Basil Beef) using the same ingredients and it’s amazing!
    • Sourcing Ingredients: This dish will taste more authentic if you get the ingredients from an Asian market. It can also be really fun to explore new marketplaces other than your regular grocery store. You will find lots of fresh produce and ingredients you can’t get anywhere else!
    • Add More Spice: This dish is traditionally spicy. If you want to add more spice, you can add more chili peppers. If you really want to turn up the heat, include the seeds. If you are on the other end and don’t want this dish spicy, you can leave out the spicy peppers.

    Storing Leftovers

Thai basil chicken makes great leftovers because it reheats really easily and tastes just as amazing a few days later. Here is how to store your leftovers.

    • Add the oil to the wok and heat over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for 3-5 minutes until almost cooked through.

    • Add the minced garlic, shallots, and peppers. Stir fry until fork tender but still crisp.

    • To make the sauce, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar in a bowl. Whisk to combine.

    • Add the sauce and stir fry until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken.

    Bake Scrambled Eggs

This is your sign to bake scrambled eggs. Why? Because it’s so simple and they are always cooked perfectly! Not to mention you can be doing other things (like getting the kids up or making the rest of breakfast) while it’s in the oven. It’s the ultimate busy mom hack! This recipe definitely makes enough to feed an army, so if you have a small family or are cooking for yourself, cut the recipe in half. If you are into meal prepping, this scrambled egg batter can be poured into greased muffin tins and adjust the cooking time. Pop them out and they are ready for your breakfast sandwiches! More about this in the tip box below.

I am from Utah, so scrambled eggs and fluffy pancakes with a side of baked bacon or sausage was our favorite breakfast. It’s so nostalgic, I love making it for my kids now. Eggs are also full of nutrients that our kid’s growing bodies need, so it’s all around a great way to start the day. They are filling and can be flavored in so many different ways, even picky eaters will love them!

    Ingredients

It’s just this simple to make good baked scrambled eggs. Just grab your eggs, milk, water, salt and butter for the perfect combination. I know what you are thinking, water? It’s my secret ingredient! I talk more about that below in the tips box. You can find the measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Eggs: You will need a whole carton of eggs! I know, it’s a lot, but it makes a lot! Cut the recipe in half if you don’t need this many cooked eggs.
    • Milk: This helps to make the scrambled eggs so soft and smooth. You can use almond milk or other plant milk instead. You could use half and half or heavy cream too.
    • Water: This is my secret ingredient to super fluffy eggs. It steams the eggs while they cook, which makes them super fluffy and tasty.
    • Salt: This helps to bring out the flavors of the dish.
    • Unsalted Butter: You will need melted butter. Use plant butter if you are making this dairy free.
Process photos showing how to add the ingredients, mix them together, and add them to the pan.

    Baked Egg Scramble Recipe

Oven baked scrambled eggs are super simple to make, and are perfect for brunch or hosting your friends. You just mix your ingredients together in a large bowl, pour the egg mixture into the pan, and bake. It’s that simple!

    1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a glass 9X13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
    2. Whisk: Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl and whisk together until well blended.
    3. Add to Pan: Pour egg mixture into a glass baking dish then place in the preheated oven.
    4. Bake: Allow the eggs to bake uncovered for 10 minutes.
    5. Cover and Bake: After 10 minutes, stir the eggs and bake for 12 additional minutes. It will still be liquid at this point but it comes together and cooks perfectly.

    Tips for Baking Scrambled Eggs

Eggs can be so tricky, and everyone likes them cooked a different way. Luckily, these baked scrambled eggs take no professional skills are always the best scrambled eggs I make (say my children). Here are some tips to ensure success with this recipe!

    • Add More Ingredients: You can add so much to this recipe! This is really just the basic idea to get your wheels spinning. You can add shredded cheddar cheese, cooked bacon, or ham! I also love fresh chives and onion powder. You can’t go wrong with mushrooms, bell pepper, tomatoes, or zucchini! Feel free to season this up however you like.
    • Cast Iron Pan: Use a large oven-safe skillet or cast iron pan instead of the 9×13 pan. I really love using my cast iron pan for eggs, I just think they turn out better in it!
    • The Secret Ingredient: Water is the secret to fluffy eggs! I added water to this recipe in addition to the milk and it turned out perfect.
    • Using a Muffin Tin: All of you meal preppers out there are going to love this hack! If you love breakfast sandwiches, then you have to try pouring your batter into a well-oiled muffin tin. Bake for about 10 minutes, then cover and rotate the pan. Come back and check on them in 5-10 minutes, because nothing is worse than an overcooked dry egg. When they are firm in the center they are ready!

A for cutting through the eggs on a plate.

    Storing Leftovers

We all know that eggs definitely taste best fresh out of the oven. This makes a large pan of eggs, so if you do have leftovers, here is how to store them.

    • In the Refrigerator: Store your leftover baked egg scramble in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Make sure they are all the way cooled off before storing them so you don’t get a lot of condensation on the lid. Reheat slowly.

    • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a glass 9X13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.

    • Add all of the ingredients to a large bowl and whisk together until well blended.

    • Pour into a glass baking dish then place in the preheated oven.

    • Allow the eggs to bake uncovered for 10 minutes.

    • After 10 minutes, stir the eggs and bake for 12 additional minutes. It will still be liquid at this point but it comes together and cooks perfectly.

It has enough salt to perfectly season the chicken breasts and it tastes so fresh! It’s a blend of cumin, chili powder, paprika, and a few other seasonings that are just amazing together.
    • Bell Peppers: I like to use a variety of green, red, and orange bell peppers. They have amazing flavor together!

Just like these chicken teriyaki meal prep bowls, I can pull one out of the refrigerator and pop it into the microwave for a quick and healthy meal in minutes. I make these chicken teriyaki meal prep bowls for my kids lunches, and they have been so much happier because of it! A full belly at school is so important.

    Ingredients

Just a few simple ingredients make up these chicken teriyaki meal prep bowls. The whole point of meal prep is to make life easier right? That’s why I love this simple chicken recipe that is flavorful and easy to make. It’s a simple recipe that all of my kids love. The teriyaki sauce is made of soy sauce, ginger, garlic and other ingredients. It’s so flavorful and easy to make! You can find the measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast: You will cut the breast up into bite sized cubes before cooking them. That way you don’t need a knife or any extra utensils. It’s so easy and convenient!
    • Rice: You can cook your rice however you usually do or use the pre-cooked rice from the store. I share some of my favorite rice recipes below in my tip box.
    • Broccoli Florets: You can buy the frozen version, or fresh. Whatever you like. You will want to steam them until soft.
    • Snap Peas: Again, fresh or frozen you are going to steam them until soft.
    • Teriyaki Sauce: I have a great teriyaki sauce recipe that you should try! Homemade teriyaki sauce is so simple to make, and you know exactly what is in it! There are lots of store bought options that work great too.
    • Sesame Seeds: This is for garnish and is totally optional. I love the flavor they give so I always add them.

How to Make Teriyaki Chicken Meal Prep Bowls

These teriyaki chicken meal prep bowls are a family favorite. I love making them for my kids school lunches. They are filling and easy to reheat! Make sure you put your food in a microwave safe bowl so that it is easy to reheat when you are ready to eat.

    1. Cook Rice: Cook the rice ahead of time or use prepackaged cooked rice for convenience.
    2. Cut and Cook Chicken: Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Cook the chicken over medium high-heat for 5-7 minutes. The chicken should be cooked through and no longer pink.
    3. Steam Veggies: Steam the vegetables until tender.
    4. Divide Ingredients: To assemble the bowls, evenly divide all of the cooked ingredients into four sealable containers.
    5. Fill Containers: Each container will contain ½ cup rice, ½ cup cooked chicken, ½ cup broccoli, ½ cup snap peas, and ¼ cup teriyaki sauce.
    6. Store: Seal the containers and store in the refrigerator until ready to eat. Warm in the microwave and drizzle the teriyaki over the chicken. Enjoy!

Tips for Making Teriyaki Chicken Meal Prep Bowls

I love these simple teriyaki chicken meal prep bowls. You can always change the recipe however you like to fit your needs. You can add more to it if you need more calories, and you can use different sauces to make it sugar free or lower calorie. Here are some tips when you go to make this recipe.

    • Using Other Chicken Parts: My kids like all of the different parts of chicken meats, so I usually cook a whole chicken and cut up the entire thing. They don’t all have to be the exact same size. I make this air fryer whole chicken all the time because of how easy it is.
    • Using Other Proteins: You can absolutely change up this recipe and use whatever protein you like. You could even make it vegetarian by using chickpeas instead of meat. I like pork and chicken the best.
    • Ways to Cook Rice: You can cook the rice however works best for you. I like to make instant pot rice or this simple and more flavorful lemon rice. You could also cook brown rice for more nutrients. You could also make quinoa or cauliflower rice for an even healthier option.
    • Adding Veggies: If your family would like green bell peppers or carrots instead, you should make what your family will love! Just steam or saute them before assembling your bowls so they are easy to warm up and eat.

    Customizing Your Meal Preps

Here are a few ways to customize these Korean beef meal prep bowls so they fit into any diet!

    • Keto/Low-Carb: For keto-friendly meal prep, swap out the white rice for cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, or a rice replacement like Shirataki rice! (This is also known as Konjac rice.) To keep carbs low, you’ll also want to swap out the brown sugar in the marinade for Stevia or monk fruit sweetener.
    • Make it Meat-Free: You can easily make these bowls vegetarian! Just swap out the beef for scrambled tofu or plant based sausage crumbles.
    • Adding Other Veggies: Feel free to pack your meal prep bowls full of all of your favorite veggies! Sliced bell peppers and carrots are both great options. If you’re feeling adventurous, add some kimchi (pickled cabbage) to your meal prep bowls for a more traditional version of this meal! Kimchi is a superfood side packed with vitamins and antioxidants. It’s also a natural probiotic! If you love spicy, pickled sides, you’ll love serving your Korean beef meal prep bowls with kimchi!
