    Almond Croissant Recipe

I don’t know about you, but whenever I go to a cafe, I can’t help but want one of the tasty pastries behind the glass. Golden brown and dusted in powdered sugar, the almond croissants always look too good to resist. Now you don’t have to go to your local coffee shop to grab one! All it takes to make them at home are some leftover croissants, simple syrup, and an easy almond filling. You’re going to love this recipe!

Almond croissants are a great breakfast for busy mornings. I love that I can just grab one and go! They’re so golden and flaky with the most delicious creamy filling. Whether you make them for a holiday breakfast or brunch with friends and family, they’re sure to be a hit. You may want to make a double batch because it’s hard to stop at one! They’re so tasty, I think I could eat a whole pan by myself.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

This recipe is perfect if you have any day-old croissants on hand! From there, all you need are some standard baking ingredients to whip a batch of these up! If you’re looking for measurements, they can all be found in the recipe card below.

    • Croissants: Day-old croissants work really well here because they stay crisp and flaky even after the creamy filling is added. Fresh will work too if you don’t already have some croissants on hand. If you’re feeling extra ambitious, try making your croissants from scratch! I have a detailed recipe for you here.

    Simple Syrup

    • Water: Adjusts the consistency of the syrup.
    • Granulated Sugar: Gives the syrup its tasty sweetness!
    • Almond Extract: I use almond extract here because it adds more tasty almond flavor all throughout the croissants.

    Almond Cream Filling

    • Almond Meal or Flour: Gives the filling substance and adds flavor as well. You can either buy this prepackaged or use ground almonds. Simply add sliced almonds to a food processor and pulse until you get a fine texture.
    • Sugar: Granulated sugar works great here to make the filling nice and sweet!
    • Salt: A pinch is all you need to enhance the overall flavor.
    • Almond Extract: For more tasty almond flavor!
    • Butter: Since we’re adding salt separately, I used unsalted butter here!
    • Large Eggs: Help bind all of the ingredients together.
    • Milk: Because we want the creamiest filling possible, I recommend using whole-fat milk.
    • Sliced Almonds and Powdered Sugar: I love adding these on top because they give the croissants a bakery-worthy finishing touch!

    How to Make Almond Croissants

Quick and easy, this almond croissant recipe is another delicious thing to add to the breakfast lineup! These croissants are so golden, flaky, and the creamy almond filling is to die for. You’re going to love them!

    1. Prepare Croissants: Leave the croissants out on the counter uncovered overnight because this helps dry them out.
    2. Preheat Oven: The day after, preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Simple Syrup

    1. Cook: Add the water and sugar to a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. Simmer until all the sugar has dissolved.
    2. Add Almond Extract: Remove from the heat and stir in almond extract. Let cool completely.

    Almond Filling

    1. Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the almond meal or flour, sugar, and salt.
    2. Add Almond Extract: Add the butter and almond extract and beat until fully combined.
    3. Mix In Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time and then beat on high until you achieve a fluffy and creamy frosting consistency.

    Assembly and Baking

    1. Brush With Simple Syrup: Slice open the stale croissants. Use a pastry brush to generously brush the simple syrup over the insides of the croissants.
    2. Add Almond Filling: Spread a layer of almond filling on the bottom half of each croissant, about 2-3 tablespoons. Top with the top half of the croissant.
    3. Add Toppings: Once all the croissants are filled, mix the remaining almond filling with 2 tablespoon of milk to thin. Spread it evenly over the top of the croissants. Sprinkle with sliced almonds. You can use your hand to press the almonds into the almond filling because this will prevent them from falling off while baking.
    4. Bake: Bake for 13-15 minutes, until the almond filling on top begins to turn golden brown and the sliced almonds are getting toasted.
    5. Top With Powdered Sugar: Let cool before dusting with powdered sugar. These croissants are best served the same day they are made.

    Tips and Tricks

Here are a few simple ways to adjust these almond croissants to your liking. That’s one of the best things about making pastries at home!

    • Adjust Almond Flavoring: If you find almond extract to be quite strong, you can cut back the amount of extract in the simple syrup and filling. You can also use vanilla extract instead if you prefer.
    • Almond Topping: You can use as few or as many sliced almonds on top of the croissants as you’d like. I love the crunch they add, so I usually use a lot.
    • Using Smaller Croissants: This recipe is easily adapted to smaller croissants. Reduce the amount of almond filling to 1-1 ½ tablespoons.
    • Add Rum: Traditionally, rum is added to the simple syrup mixture in many almond croissant recipes. This is a great way to add a little extra flavor! A tablespoon or two will do the trick

    Storing Leftover Croissants

These almond croissants are best served warm out of the oven, but they will keep for a few days in an airtight container on the counter. They make a quick and easy breakfast or a sweet treat to snack on throughout the day!

    • At Room Temperature: Store leftover croissants in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Dust with more powdered sugar, if needed, when ready to eat.

  • Bourbon Pecan Pie

    Bourbon Pecan Pie

This gooey Bourbon Pecan Pie is a delicious twist on a classic! The alcohol will cook out while baking and you are left with rich flavor and a sweet filling that will leave your mouth watering. You won’t want to make it any other way!

It’s that time of year when we have pie on our minds. Whether you are thinking about Thanksgiving or just want a crowd-pleasing dessert for a gathering, you are in need of a great pie recipe! No doubt you’ve already got some favorites, but I always like to try out a new pie recipe once a year. You’ll have to try my most popular Incredible Peach Pie, or this fit for any season No Bake Key Lime Pie. If you are a fan of chocolate, you can’t go wrong with this classic Chocolate Pie!

Bourbon Pecan Pie with a slice taken out of it in a white pie dish with pecans in the background.

    Bourbon Pecan Pie Recipe

I’ve heard it a lot- pecan pie is too sweet. It’s the reason it rarely makes an appearance at my house! My family isn’t a huge fan. That’s why I am absolutely in love with this Bourbon Pecan Pie recipe! It’s perfect. The bourbon cuts down on the sweetness, and the darker brown sugar and corn syrup give the pie a prailine-like flavor that is off the charts. My family gobbled this pie up so quickly that I couldn’t believe it. My kids loved it topped with some whipped cream!

The best part about this recipe is that it isn’t harder than your average pecan pie. It requires no extra effort and will blow you away with it’s rich nutty flavor. I am a huge fan of no-bake pies (like this easy chocolate pie) because sometimes baking a pie feels like a gamble. It’s hard to know if the center will set up and if the crust will bake all the way through. This recipe was stress-free! I promise it will turn out great for you too.

    Ingredients

There are a few ingredients in this Bourbon Pecan pie that you will likely have to go buy at the grocery store. This pie is very sweet and it needs molasses to give it it’s rich flavor. You will absolutely love the sweet filling and the kick you get from the bourbon! It is an award-winning pie if you ask me!

    • 9- inch Pie Crust: To save time you can buy a pre-made pie crust, but there’s nothing like homemade crust! This pie crust recipe is one I love to make and freeze the dough to have on hand.
    • Butter: I used unsalted butter in this recipe.
    • Dark Brown Sugar: Dark brown sugar has more molasses than regular brown sugar. You will definitely want to use it! It will change the flavor if you use regular brown sugar.
    • Dark Corn Syrup: Again, you will want to use this instead of regular corn syrup! It has molasses in it and is sweeter than the regular version.
    • Eggs: I always use Grade A large eggs in my recipes.
    • Bourbon: I just used Jim Beam, but you can use your favorite brand!
    • Vanilla Extract: Whatever you usually use in baked goods will work.
    • Salt: Just a pinch to bring out the flavors and cut the sweetness.
    • Pecans: You can use whole pieces, or roughly chop them. I like to do a little bit of both for texture.
Process photos showing pecan pie filling ingredients being poured into a glass bowl, pecans being added, and then that mixture being added to a pie shell in a white pie dish.

    How to Make Pecan Pie

This is a simple pie that will really wow your guests! I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make, and yet the taste was top notch. It’s better than any pecan pie I’ve had at any restaurant. You will not be sorry you tried this Bourbon Pecan Pie!

    1. Freeze Crust: Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan. Flute the edges and place the crust in the freezer for at least 20 minutes. Let us stay there until the filling is ready.
    2. Make Filling: Preheat the oven to 375°. In a large bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Add the eggs, bourbon, vanilla extract and salt. Mix until thoroughly combined.
    3. Add Pecans: Stir the pecans into the filling and pour into the chilled pie crust.
    4. Bake: Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven before lowering the temp to 325°. Bake for an additional 45-60 minutes, until the center of the pie still has just a slight wobble to it but is almost completely set.
    5. Cool: Remove from the oven and let cool completely on a cooling rack.

Tips for Making Bourbon Pecan Pie

This is a simple pie, but I wanted to share a few tips that really helped me make this pie next level! These are just a few things I thought you might like to know while making this pie.

    • Time Saver: Need to save yourself some time? Use a pre-made pie crust. You can also purchase pre-chopped pecans for even faster prep.
    • Nuts:  Use chopped pecans in the filling and top with whole halves to add texture.
    • Cut the Sweetness: This is supposed to be a sweet pie, but understandably it can be too sweet sometimes. Balance that sweetness by adding semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chocolate chips to the bottom of the pie crust before adding the filling. You can also add flakey sea salt to the top once cooked for a sweet and salty taste.
    • Avoid Burning: If the top of the pie is browning too much but the filling is still not quite set, take a sheet of foil and place it gently on top of the pie. Don’t crimp it around the sides of the pie, simply let it rest on top and it will protect it from burning while the filling finishes cooking.

    Storing Leftovers

This Bourbon Pecan Pie makes great leftovers! It doesn’t store long, but it tastes amazing up until it’s last day. You can follow these tips to get the most out of this delicious recipe!

    • Room Temperature: You can bake this pie and store it at room temperature for up to 3 days.
    • Refrigerator: It can also be stored in the fridge loosely covered for 4-5 days. Allow the pie to come to room temperature before serving.
    • Bake and Freeze: Bake and cool completely and then freeze the pie for up to 2 months. Before serving, thaw in the fridge overnight and bring to room temperature.

    • Use the Bottom Rack: When you are baking a pie, it’s always best to place it on the lowest rack in your oven. This helps prevent your pie crust from becoming soggy on the bottom.

  • Rugelach

    Rugelach

Rugelach is a delicious little Jewish cookie filled with sweet and buttery flavors! A cream cheese pastry dough is filled with walnuts, raisins, cinnamon, and sugar and rolled into miniature crescent shapes.

As the pastry dough bakes, rugelach tastes like a buttery flaky crust. The sweetness of the sugars and walnuts rolled on the inside of the cookie creates perfect complimentary flavors. Walnuts always have a way of being the star of both sweet and savory recipes. I love the addition of walnuts in my banana bread and fudge, but you have to try this amazing honey walnut shrimp!

A closeup photo of a small plate of rugelach cookies stacked on top of each other. Raisins, walnuts, and a kitchen towel are scattered around the plate.

    What Is Rugelach?

These traditional Jewish cookies get its name from the Yiddish word rugel, meaning “royal.” A cream cheese and butter pastry dough bakes to perfection as the sugars, raisins, and cinnamon melt and caramelize the inside. You are going to love rugelach because of the sweet inside flavors and the light flaky outside.

This delicious treat is like biting through the best crust of your favorite pie! I love making them around the holidays and it’s fun to bring them to a cookie exchange. If you’re looking for more cookie recipes to bring to a cookie exchange you should bring these Twix cookies, butter pecan cookies, or my popular Grinch cookies!

Ingredients for the Best Jewish Treat

Rugelach may seem fancy, but the ingredients to make them are very simple! Most of the ingredients you will have on hand. The combination of cream cheese and butter creates the perfect pastry dough for these cookies. The baked pastry shell melts in your mouth and you are going to LOVE them!

    Dough

    • Cream Cheese: Cream cheese surprisingly makes a perfect pastry dough.
    • Unsalted Butter: Unsalted butter is best.
    • All-Purpose Flour: All-purpose flour creates the best results.
    • Granulated Sugar: Just a little bit of sugar helps sweeten the dough.
    • Salt: A little salt helps balance flavors.

    Filling

    • Granulated Sugar: You will love the combination of granulated and brown sugar together.
    • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar caramelizes and creates the sweetest flavor.
    • Raisins: I love the sweetness and texture of the raisins.
    • Walnuts: The walnuts bake and soften so deliciously in this recipe. You can also use pecans if you prefer.
    • Ground Cinnamon: I love the addition of cinnamon!

Making this rugelach recipe can seem intimidating with all the steps, but these come together very quickly. You can also freeze some of the dough for later if you would like. It makes a lot of them which is so fun to bring to parties and share with friends. Everyone will love how cute and little they are!

    Dough

    1. Combine Dry Ingredients: Combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a food processor. Pulse on low 3-4 times until combined.
    2. Add Cream Cheese and Butter: Add the chilled cream cheese and butter, both cut into cubes, and pulse until crumbly and pea-sized.
    3. Knead Dough: Turn the mixture out onto a clean work surface then knead the dough together just until a cohesive dough forms.
    4. Chill Dough: Split them into three flattened disks and wrap them with plastic wrap. Chill for 1-2 hours, or overnight.

    Filling

    1. Add Filling Ingredients to Food Processor: Clean the food processor then add the sugars, raisins, walnuts, and cinnamon.
    2. Mix Filling Ingredients and Chill: Mix until the walnuts and raisins have been chopped into tiny bits. Transfer to a bowl. Cover and set aside until the dough is done chilling.

    Assembly and Baking

    1. Preheat Oven and Line Baking Sheets: Preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
    2. Roll Out Dough: Start with just one disk of dough by removing it from the fridge and plastic wrap. Place on a floured surface and use a rolling pin to roll into a 10-12 inch circle, about ⅛ inch thick. You may need to lift and turn the dough several times in order to dust it with flour beneath it to keep it from sticking. I used a large mixing bowl to trace a perfect circle and trimmed it with a paring knife.
    3. Spread on Filling: Spread ⅓ of the rugelach filling evenly across the top of the circle, pressing it into the dough rather firmly to anchor it.
    4. Cut Into Wedges: Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the circle into 12 equal wedges. Then roll each wedge starting from the wide side and into the pointed end. Place on the baking sheet keeping about 1 inch between them.
    5. Bake: Bake rugelach for 25-30 minutes until the dough begins to turn a light golden brown on top and the bottoms are crisp.
    6. Allow to Cool: Let cool completely on a cooling rack before serving.
First photo is the dough mixed in a food processor. Second photo of the dough rolled out. Third photo of the filling mixture in a glass bowl. Fourth photo of the filling spread out on the rolled out dough. Fifth photo of the cookies rolled into crescent shapes.

    Tips and Variations

This traditional rugelach comes together fairly quickly. It makes a lot of delicious cookies for you to enjoy and share with friends and neighbors. I have some helpful tips below for making this recipe a success for you!

    • Chill the Dough: Kneading the dough together can take a bit of work since there isn’t water or liquid to help it come together. Once the rugelach dough comes together, it’s important to give it adequate chilling time so the fat can become solid again and the gluten in the dough can relax, resulting in a flakier cookie.
    • Press the Filling: The filling is coarse and dry, so use your fingers to press it into the dough as best you can.
    • Roll the Rugelach Tightly: When rolling the cookies, try to keep the dough rolled tightly to prevent it from unraveling while it bakes.
    • Other Nuts and Fruit Work Great: The filling in this recipe is easily adaptable! You can swap out the walnuts for other nuts, try adding different spices or even use alternative dried fruit in place of the raisins.

Top view of many baked rugelach cooling on parchment paper.

    Storing Leftover Cookies

You are going to love these cookies so much that you won’t be able to stop eating them! If you happen to have any rugelach left over, you can simply store them at room temperature. This helps them keep a delicious crunchy texture.

    • On the Counter: Store leftover rugelach in an airtight container for up to 5 days at room temperature.
    • In the Freezer: The dough can be frozen once it is ready for the chilling stage, just wrap the discs tightly in 2-3 layers of plastic wrap followed by a layer of foil, and then in a freezer ziplock bag. It can be kept frozen for up to 3 months. Let it thaw overnight in the fridge before continuing with the recipe.

It’s fall, and you know what that means! ALL of the apple recipes! Is there anything better than biting into a crisp and tender apple? The only thing better is when you can make a delicious dessert out of it, just like this apple pecan crisp! The addition of pecans to a classic apple crisp recipe took it to a whole different and delicious level.

This recipe is delicious and simple to make and will be the perfect fit after any fall meal. The cinnamon sugar mixture works its magic in the oven as it bakes and creates an amazing cinnamon sugar glaze over the apples as it bakes. Top this dessert with some vanilla ice cream. It will melt onto the warm apple crisp and adds a creamy texture to each and every bite.

    Ingredients in Apple Pecan Crisp

Once you have some Granny Smith apples in hand, you won’t be able to resist making this delicious dessert! It’s perfect for fall and I love bringing in the classic autumn spices like cinnamon and cardamom to really level up this dessert. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

    • Granny Smith Apples: I like using green apples because their tart flavor complements the sweet ingredients perfectly. I also peel my apples before adding them to my cooking dish.
    • Lemon Juice: The lemon juice keeps the apples fresh and helps prevent browning.
    • Brown Sugar: This adds in a deep flavor and helps creamy a caramelized texture.
    • Flour: I used all-purpose flour for this recipe.
    • Cinnamon: This classic flavor is a must for any fall apple recipes!
    • Cardamom: This adds a bit of a spicy, mint flavor that goes so well with cinnamon.
    • Ginger: The ginger provides a very mildly spicy and sweet combination of flavors to the dessert.
    • Pecans: You will use some of the pecans with the apples, and the other half will go in the topping.

    Crumb Topping

    • Flour: I used all-purpose flour in the topping.
    • Old Fashioned Oats: The oats bring in a fantastic texture that makes the top crumble.
    • Brown Sugar: This is a MUST if you want the sauce to caramelize and add some additional sweet flavors.
    • Cinnamon and Nutmeg: These fall flavors complement the apple mixture.
    • Salt: The salt enhances all the flavors in the apple pecan crisp.
    • Butter: I used cold unsalted butter so I could easily cut it up into cubes.

    Baking Tips and Variations

Apple pecan crisp is just as delicious as it sounds! Here are a few tips and variations that you can use to change things up and make your dessert perfect for your family.

    • Crumb Topping: When you mix your crumb topping, you shouldn’t see any cubes of butter left behind. When you pinch your fingers, the topping should stick together.
    • Nuts: If you aren’t a fan of pecans, then you can switch up the type of nuts! Try using some walnuts or slivered almonds instead!
    • Glaze: I love adding some vanilla ice cream to this apple pecan crisp when it’s warm, but you can also try drizzling on some warmed cream cheese frosting as a glaze!

A top view of apple pecan crisp in a 9 x 13 pan with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream on top.

    • At Room Temperature: Once your apple pecan crisp has cooled, then you can store it in an airtight container at room temperature. It will last about 2-4 days!
    • To Reheat: You can warm this up in the microwave and top it with some fresh vanilla ice cream; it will taste as good as the day you baked it!

What are Taylor Swift Chai Cookies?

We have to go back to 2009 when Taylor Swift took over the internet with her Chai sugar cookie recipe. Everyone just HAD to try it, and they really lived up to all the excitement. They are more than just a sugar cookie. Taylor Swift’s Chai cookies are full of fall flavors and actually have Chai tea in them, which is where they get their name. We used Chai concentrate and leaves to really get the flavor to pop. I have to give it to Tay Tay, she makes a great cookie!

The original cookie has eggnog frosting, and in this recipe I decided to give you the option to make it without. I have a tip box you can see below that shows you how to include the eggnog if you want it! It really does take the fall flavors to the next level. I have always loved the Swig sugar cookie with all my heart, but I think this recipe just might turn me into a Swiftie cookie fan too! I already love her music of course.

Ingredients in Taylor Swift Chai Cookies

You will absolutely love the ingredients in this cookie. It has real Chai tea leaves and Chai concentrate to make this cookie the perfect companion to a cup of tea! Too much? I don’t think so! You’ll already be buying a Chai tea packet, so you might as well brew a cup to enjoy them with!

    • Butter: I used unsalted butter. If all you have is salted then leave out the additional salt in this recipe.
    • Vegetable oil: Vegetable oil doesn’t have very much flavor so it’s perfect for cookies. You can use your favorite oil.
    • Granulated Sugar: Regular pantry sugar is great.
    • Powdered Sugar: There is powdered sugar in this cookie which helps absorb some of the extra moisture that the oil gives this cookie.
    • Chai Tea Concentrate: You should be able to find this ingredients in the tea aisle at your favorite grocery store. You want to make sure to include this ingredient so you can really taste the chai spices!
    • Egg: I always use large grade A eggs.
    • Vanilla Extract: Whatever you use for baking will be perfect.
    • Chai Tea Leaves: You can buy any bagged Chai tea box from the tea aisle at the grocery store. You will open the bag to get the leaves out. They should already be really small and ready to put into your cookies.
    • Allspice: This brings out the warm flavors in the Chai. It tastes like a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
    • All-Purpose Flour: Whatever flour you have on hand will work.
    • Baking Soda: This helps the cookies rise.
    • Salt: Salt makes all of the other flavors stronger and helps balance out the sweetness.

    Frosting Ingredients

    • Powdered Sugar: Powdered sugar is great for frosting because it gets really smooth and soft.
    • Nutmeg: The perfect warm fall flavor to compliment the Chai in the cookie.
    • Vanilla: Vanilla flavor helps the frosting to taste deeper and more than just sweetness.
    • Heavy Whipping Cream: The fat in heavy whipping cream makes this frosting irresistible and so creamy!

    Taylor Swift Chai Cookies Recipe

If you have made a cookie before, you can make these Taylor Swift Chai cookies! They are so easy to make and perfect for a chilly day. They come together so quickly and the added spices will totally blow you away.

    1. Whip Butter: In a large bowl using a hand mixer, or a stand mixer fitted with the paddle, whip your butter until it is light and fluffed.
    2. Add Oil: Add the oil and beat on medium speed until it’s mostly incorporated, the oil will not completely mix with the butter.
    3. Add Ingredients: Add sugar, powdered sugar, chai tea concentrate, egg, and vanilla. Mix again until all are incorporated.
    4. Add Spices: Add the chai tea leaves and allspice, mix in.
    5. Add Dry Ingredients: Lastly add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir until it’s all combined. Your batter will be soft.
    6. Scoop Cookies: Scoop cookie dough out at about 2 tablespoons size, round into balls and roll in sugar.
    7. Chill: Place dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for an hour.
    8. Bake and Cool: Preheat oven to 350℉ and bake cookies for 8-12 minutes. After removing from the oven allow cookies to sit on the hot pan for at least 5 minutes. Remove from pan and let the cookies cool completely on a cooling rack.

    Frosting Recipe

    1. Whip: Whip all the ingredients together with a hand mixer, until all ingredients are well incorporated.
    2. Frost: Once the cookies have cooled completely, dollop a spoon of frosting on top of the cookies and spread lightly with the back of the spoon.

    Make Eggnog Frosting

The original Taylor Swift Chai cookies recipe has eggnog in the frosting. You can take the frosting recipe that I shared, and make a simple change to add eggnog!

    • Make Eggnog Icing: It’s a simple substitution! Just substitute all of the heavy whipping cream for egg nog. It’s so creamy, soft, and absolutely delicious! You can make the regular frosting or try this eggnog version. Both are absolutely delicious and perfect on top of this fall flavored cookies.

    Storing Leftovers

These cookies are so scrumptious and make fantastic leftovers because they can last about 5 days and taste great the whole time! If you store them correctly they will stay soft and creamy.

    • On the Counter: Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container on your counter. They will last up to 5 days!

For a while, I was intimidated by tarts. Looking back I have no idea why! Tarts are so delicious and easy to make. And like everything else, they taste so much better homemade! So this is your sign to make a tart. You will love this classic Lemon Tart with a Buttery Shortbread Crust, and this delicious Pear Tart! You can’t go wrong with this Apple Tart, it’s stunning and always a crowd-pleaser!

    What is a Treacle Tart?

A treacle tart is a gooey treacle (or golden syrup) filling with a buttery brown sugar shortbread crust. It’s a classic English pastry, which is why you may not have heard of it. If you are a Harry Potter fan, then you may remember that a treacle tart is his favorite dessert! So if you aren’t a tea drinker, you should pair this dessert with a Butter Beer. Of course you’ll also have to try it with some whipped cream and vanilla ice cream too.

By now you might be wondering what is golden syrup? Golden syrup is an inverted sugar syrup made up of sugar, water, and citric acid. It’s thicker than your everyday maple syrup, closer to honey. It’s full of deep buttery flavor and you will instantly fall in love with it! Even the homemade version will last on the shelf for months. The pop of fresh lemon brightens up the whole dessert. This treacle tart recipe is so good you’ll be wondering why it isn’t more popular in the States too!

    Ingredients in Treacle Tart

We’ve already talked a little about the golden syrup. I think it’s a must for this recipe and it will be the only thing you probably don’t have on hand. I love how classic ingredients that we use all the time can be used in so many different ways. This dessert will absolutely blow you away with simple ingredients. It’s irresistible! See the recipe card below for exact measurements.

    Brown Sugar Shortbread Crust

    • Flour: I used all-purpose flour in this recipe.
    • Brown Sugar: Make sure to pack it down in the measuring cup.
    • Salt: Salt helps to balance out the sweet flavors.
    • Butter: You will want to use unsalted butter. Or if you are using salted butter leave out the added salt. Make sure to leave your butter out for a few hours so it’s soft.

    Treacle Tart Filling

    • Golden Syrup: Golden syrup is made from sugar. You might not be able to find it at the grocery store. I found a great one on Amazon, or you can make it at home! There are lots of great homemade recipes online that are easy.
    • Heavy Whipping Cream: This is a must in my opinion. It makes it so rich and creamy!
    • Breadcrumbs: If you don’t want to get them from the store, I have a great recipe for homemade breadcrumbs, just leave out the savory seasonings. Making your own breadcrumbs is great because they have less preservatives and you can flavor them however you like.
    • Vanilla Extract: Whatever you usually use for baking will work great.
    • Lemon Zest: To get that real lemon flavor you want in this treacle tart, you’ll want to zest a whole fresh lemon. It really brightens up the tart and balances out the sweetness!
    • Lemon Juice: Since you already zested the lemon, I recommend using the juice from that lemon. If you are really in a pinch you can use bottled lemon juice.
    • Egg: I always use grade A large eggs in my recipes.

How to Make a Treacle Tart

Get ready for an easy and delicious dessert! It’s sure to blow you away with it’s sweet and creamy filling. It is a great dessert to serve with tea (and not just because it’s an English dessert) or coffee. I seriously can’t get enough of yummy desserts with ingredients you already have in your pantry! You will make this tart in two steps, the crust and the filling.

    Making Brown Sugar Shortbread Crust

    1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl with a hand mixer, or in the bowl if a stand mixer fitted with a paddle, whisk together your dry ingredients; flour, brown sugar, and salt.
    2. Add Wet Ingredients: Add in your vanilla and room temp butter, then mix well. The mixture should have a crumbly texture, add more flour if needed.
    3. Pack Crust: In a standard 9 ½” tart pan, dump your crust and using your hands or the back of a spoon, pack the crust into the pan firmly and evenly.
    4. Set Aside: Set aside to be filled.

    Making Treacle Tart Filling

    1. Combine Ingredients: Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan; golden syrup, heavy whipping cream, breadcrumbs, lemon zest, lemon juice, and egg.
    2. Heat: Bring to a gentle boil on medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
    3. Cook: Once a gentle boil has been reached, reduce heat and cook for an additional 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
    4. Fill Crust: Pour mixture into your shortbread crust and place into your oven, preheated to 375℉
    5. Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes until your filling has nicely browned, the crust should be a golden color
    6. Enjoy: Treacle tarts are typically served warm with whipped cream.

    Tips and Tricks

This dessert is one you may have never tried before. I know how hard it can be to make things when you don’t know what they are supposed to look and feel like! Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about this treacle tart recipe.

    • Can I Use Corn Syrup Instead of Golden Syrup? A lot of you may be wondering if corn syrup would be a good replacement. I really don’t think so because the flavor will not be nearly the same. Golden syrup is full of deep and rich flavor that corn syrup doesn’t have. Because making golden syrup is so easy, I really recommend you use it!
    • Do I Need to Blind Bake the Crust? Because you are baking the tart filling, you won’t need to bake the crust beforehand. Every oven bakes differently, so pay attention to how dark the crust looks while baking. Make sure you evenly pack the crust so it will all bake at the same time.
    • Can I Make this Tart Ahead of Time? Yes, but I wouldn’t make it more than 24 hours ahead of eating it. It really is best eaten fresh! If you need to store it I’ve added tips below in the Leftovers box.
    • Can I Freeze Treacle Tart? Unfortunately, this tart does not freeze well. I don’t recommend freezing it. See my tips for storing leftovers below.

    Storing Leftovers

I absolutely love this tart! It’s such a crowd-pleaser and a great talking point for Harry Potter fans. If you do happen to have any left over, here are my tips for storing them.

On the Counter: You can cover your tart lightly with plastic wrap or in an airtight container for up to two days.

In the Refrigerator: Cover your tart in plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for up to two days. Make sure to let it warm to room temperature before serving.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

Now, I know this chocolate brownie cheesecake has a pretty lengthy ingredient list, but hear me out! A lot of them are standard baking ingredients. It’s great because you probably already have them on hand! Check out the recipe card below for measurements.

    Brownie Crust

    • Unsalted Butter: Adds rich flavor and moisture.
    • Chocolate Chips: I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but feel free to use milk or dark chocolate chips!
    • Sugar: I use both granulated and light brown sugar here for the perfect sweetness.
    • Cocoa Powder: Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor!
    • Vanilla Extract: If you don’t already have it, I recommend getting some pure vanilla extract. It will make all of your baked goods taste better!
    • Eggs: I used large eggs at room temperature so that they mix into the brownie batter smoothly.
    • Baking Powder: You want to add baking powder so your crust isn’t too dense.
    • Salt: Just a pinch is all you need to enhance the flavor!
    • Flour: All-purpose flour works great here. It has a low protein content which means your brownie bottom will turn out soft and fudgy.

    Cheesecake Layer

    • Cream Cheese: The main ingredient for your cheesecake layer. You’ll want this to be softened so it mixes together with the other ingredients easily.
    • Granulated Sugar: Makes the filling nice and sweet!
    • Chocolate Chunks or Chips: I used semi-sweet!
    • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: For more chocolate goodness.
    • Flour: Helps the filling set.
    • Vanilla Extract: I love adding vanilla because it makes everything taste better! Use pure vanilla extract if you can.
    • Large Eggs: Add structure to the filling.
    • Sour Cream: Adds a hint of tang and creamy texture!

    Chocolate Ganache

    • Chocolate Chunks or Chips: Feel free to use milk or dark chocolate if you prefer.
    • Heavy Whipped Cream: Makes the ganache creamy and smooth.

    Garnish (Optional)

    • Chocolate Shavings: These are the perfect finishing touch! (I love them because they’re delicious, too!)
    • Whipped Cream: You’ve got to have some whipped cream on top! It adds a little extra creaminess and makes it look picture-perfect.

How to Make Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake

Don’t let all of the steps fool you. Chocolate brownie cheesecake is a dessert that anyone can make! Psst- if you want to speed up prep, feel free to use boxed brownie mix for the crust! You can also use the recipe from these simple 3-ingredient brownies.

    1. Preheat Oven, Prep Pan: Preheat oven to 350°F. Line the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper and grease the sides. Wrap the outer layer of the pan with a double-layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil to prevent leaking.

    Brownie Bottom:

    1. Combine Ingredients: To make the brownie crust, combine the melted butter and melted chocolate in a large bowl until smooth. Whisk in both sugars until combined.
    2. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Whisk in the vanilla and then the eggs, one by one – mixing until incorporated.
    3. Mix in Dry Ingredients: Add baking powder, salt, and slowly mix in the flour until smooth and just combined.
    4. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake in preheated oven for 22-24 minutes. (Brownie may not be fully baked which is okay since you will bake it with the cheesecake.)

    Cheesecake Layer:

    • Adjust Temperature: Remove the pan from the oven and set aside. Reduce the oven temperature to 300°F.
    • Mix Cream Cheese and Sugar: While the brownie is baking, make the cheesecake layer. Using a stand mixer (or hand mixer) on low speed, beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth and combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and beat slowly, until just smooth.
    • Add Eggs: Next, add eggs one at a time, scraping down after each addition.
    • Add Chocolate, Flour, and Vanilla: Add melted chocolate, cocoa powder, flour, and vanilla together until smooth.
    • Mix in Sour Cream: Add the sour cream and beat on low speed until smooth and combined.
    • Pour Into Pan: Slowly pour cheesecake batter over brownie layer and spread evenly. The pan will be very full.
    • Water Bath: Place springform pan inside a large roasting pan. Fill outside pan with enough warm water to go about almost halfway up the sides of the springform pan.
    • Bake: Bake at 300°F for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The center will be slightly jiggly.
    • Cool in the Oven: Turn off the oven, and allow the cheesecake to cool in the oven with the door closed for 20 minutes.
    • Chill: Crack open the door and leave the cheesecake in the oven for 30 minutes or until set. Remove the cheesecake from the oven and discard aluminum foil wrapping. Cover and refrigerate until firm, 5-6 hours, or overnight.
    • Transfer to Serving Plate: Once the cheesecake is completely cool, remove springform pan sides from cheesecake and place cheesecake on a serving plate.

    Chocolate Ganache:

    • Add to Bowl: Place the chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl.
    • Heat and Mix: Using a double-boiler or the microwave, heat the heavy whipping cream until it just begins to boil, then pour over the chocolate chips. Allow the mixture to sit undisturbed for 1-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth.
    • Add to Cheesecake: Spread the ganache onto the cheesecake into an even layer. Garnish with shaved chocolate and whipped cream, if desired. Voila! You have a delicious chocolate brownie cheesecake ready to go!

Tips for Making the Best Cheesecake

Here are a few extra tips to get your cheesecake to taste perfect every time! Everyone’s going to go crazy over your chocolate brownie cheesecake. It’s the best addition to any holiday party. Expect your guests to want a second (or third) piece!

    • Don’t Skip the Water Bath: Because we want our cheesecake to be light and delicate, a water bath is a must! Don’t skip it! A water bath ensures that the cheesecake bakes up perfectly soft and creamy.
    • Use Room Temperature Ingredients: Since cheesecake is supposed to be soft and smooth, the last thing you want is for it to be lumpy. You can avoid this by making sure your wet ingredients (eggs and dairy) are at room temperature before you mix them together.
    • Use Full-Fat Ingredients: As much as I wish it were, this chocolate brownie cheesecake isn’t the most diet-friendly dessert around. If you really want to make it as creamy and delicious as possible, stay away from low-fat cream cheese and sour cream.
    • Don’t Overmix: When you mix up your cheesecake filling, be sure to use a gentle hand. Overmixing can cause the cheesecake to deflate and crack.
    • Chill: Be sure you let your cheesecake chill for as long as possible! (I recommend overnight!) This will help it set.

    Storing Leftovers

If you have leftovers of this chocolate brownie cheesecake, keep them! You’ll thank me later. There’s nothing like having a slice of cheesecake when you get a late-night sweet tooth. It’s heavenly!

    • In the Refrigerator: Cover cheesecake with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container. It will stay good for up to 4 days.

What is a Cinnamon Roll Dessert Pizza

We love pizza night at our house. And they have been getting more frequent these days because we are so busy! My boys always beg me to make homemade pizza instead of ordering out. But it doesn’t stop with the main course as pizza… they want it for dessert too! And I must say, once you try this out, you will want to make it over and over again!

This dessert pizza has all of the classic signs of a cinnamon roll. The delicious cinnamon taste and yummy cream cheese topping. This pizza dessert, however, takes your cinnamon roll to the next level. The cinnamon mixture has some delicious oats for a heartier texture! Oh, and did I mention that you can make this with simple pizza dough? If you don’t have the time to make cinnamon rolls, this is a great option, not to mention it’s unique and everyone loves it!

    Ingredients in Cinnamon Dessert Pizza

It all starts with my quick and easy pizza dough. It only requires 20 minutes of rest time, so you can have your pizza in and out of the oven in no time at all! Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements and ingredients.

    Cinnamon Sugar Spread

    • Butter: I used unsalted butter in this recipe.
    • Brown Sugar: I love adding in brown sugar whenever I can
    • Old Fashioned Oats: This is where the pizza gets intersting and takes a turn away from your classic cinnamon rolls. You will love the added taste and texture!
    • Cinnamon: This classic spice will give this dessert pizza exaclty the flavor you want.

    Cream Cheese Glaze

    • Butter: Use some more unslated butter in this delicious glaze.
    • Cream Cheese: The cream cheese will mix much better and has less lumps if you let it sit out at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes.
    • Powdered Sugar: This dissolves easily and brings a sweet taste to counteract the tangy cream cheese.
    • Vanilla Extract: I love adding in a splash of vanilla to any glaze!

How to Make a Dessert Pizza

This cinnamon roll dessert pizza is so simple and easy that it will definitely be a go-to dessert at your house! Not to mention that you can even buy pre-made pizza dough to make it that much easier!

    1. Prep: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a 12 inch pizza sheet lightly with cooking spray. Set aside.
    2. Roll: Roll the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle and place it on top of the pizza pan. If you want the dough to be thinner then divide it in half and use the other half for pizza. Once it is in the pizza pan then let it rest for 10 minutes.

    To Make the Spread

    1. Mix and Bake: In a small bowl combine butter, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon. Spread thinly on top of the pizza crust. Sprinkle with additional brown sugar if desired. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are light brown.

    To Make the Glaze

    1. Drizzle: Beat together butter and cream cheese. Add powdered sugar and vanilla until combined. If it is thick then put it in the microwave to soften it up. Drizzle on top of the pizza.

    Ingredients

    Dough

    Cinnamon Sugar Spread

    • 1/2 cup butter softened
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
    • 3 Teaspoons cinnamon

    Cream Cheese Glaze

    • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 2 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
    • ¾ cup powdered sugar
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a 12 inch pizza sheet lightly with cooking spray. Set aside.
    • Roll the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle and place it on top of the pizza pan. If you want the dough to be thinner, divide it in half and use the other half for pizza. Once it is in the pizza pan, let it rest for 10 minutes.

    To Make the Spread

    • In a small bowl combine butter, brown sugar, oats, and cinnamon. Spread thinly on top of the pizza crust. Sprinkle with additional brown sugar if desired. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are light brown.

    To Make the Glaze

    • Beat together butter and cream cheese. Add powdered sugar and vanilla until combined. If it is thick, put it in the microwave to soften it up. Drizzle on top of the pizza.
