    Charcuterie Cups

Impress your guests with these quick and easy charcuterie cups! They’re packed with an assortment of meats, cheeses, fruit and nuts; it’s the ultimate finger food!

I’m a sucker for good charcuterie. The beauty of charcuterie boards is that you can make so many different kinds! If you’re craving something meaty, this Italian charcuterie is the way to go. If you’re wanting something sweet, a chocolate charcuterie board is a great choice! You can also make one entirely with vegetables. The options are endless!

    Charcuterie in a Cup

This recipe takes everything good about a charcuterie board but makes it into individual servings. What could be better? No more fighting over that last cube of cheese! Charcuterie cups are super easy to make and will have your guests raving. They’re also sometimes known as “jarcuteries” when served in a glass jar. Not only do they look good, but they taste even better! No matter the occasion, these charcuterie cups are the perfect appetizer choice.

Like any charcuterie board, this version in a cup can easily be customized. I used a variety of nuts, olives, meats, cheeses, and fruit, but feel free to mix and match to personal preference! I like to add in a bunch of different flavors and textures to these charcuterie cups. This way, there’s something for everyone, no matter what you’re craving! You’re going to LOVE having these on hand to munch on before dinner. They’re the perfect option for dinners throughout the holiday season as well as game days and potlucks!

    Start With the Cups

Any plastic cups will work, but I like to use crystal party cups because they have a nice presentation. I used 14 ounce cups to make sure they fit all of the tasty ingredients. If you want smaller portions, you can go for something like a 9 ounce cup. Additionally, you’ll need toothpicks or wooden skewers to put these charcuterie cups together.

    The Recipe Critic Recommendation

    The Perfect Serving Cups

    Chinet Crystal Cup – 36ct/14oz

These cups are super affordable and make for great presentation! They’re also big enough to fit all of your favorite charcuterie goodies in.

Everything You’ll Need to Make Charcuterie Cups

I like to have a good mix of sweet, salty, crunchy, and soft in my charcuterie cups. Feel free to leave out anything you don’t like or add in some of your other favorite snacks! The beauty of charcuterie cups is that you can easily customize them to personal preference.

    • Nuts: I put these in the bottom of my charcuterie cups. They have the best crunch! I used regular salted pistachios and almonds here, but you can try out different flavors if you’d like! In addition to pistachios and almonds, pecans, walnuts, macadamia nuts, and cashews are all great things to try!
    • Bread: No charcuterie is complete without some tasty crackers! For these charcuterie cups I went for long, narrow crackers so they poke out of the top of the cup. Bread and crackers is a great way to play around with flavors and textures! Here, I used sesame breadsticks and tall baked crackers.
    • Olives: Skewer some olives onto a serving stick with some meat and cheese for a little extra flair! I use both black and green olives here for some variety in flavor and color.
    • Meats: Sliced meats are the best way to pack flavor into your charcuterie cups. I added salami, prosciutto di parma, and peppered red wine salame to my skewers for the best mix of salty, sweet, and peppery flavor. Pepperoni also works as an inexpensive option!
    • Cheeses: I like to have a sharp, flavorful cheese as well as a mild, creamy cheese in my charcuterie cups. I used cheddar cheese and mozzarella, respectively.
    • Berries: I used strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries!

    Extra Add-Ins

Here are a few extra things you can add to your charcuterie cups! Feel free to mix and match. You can also create a charcuterie cup bar so your guests can make their own!

    • Veggies: They may not be for everyone, but me and my kids love adding mini pickles to our skewers! Cherry or grape tomatoes are more great things to add to your skewers.

    How to Make Charcuterie Cups

It’s SO easy. They only take a few minutes to whip up! These bad boys will impress your guests with minimal effort.

    1. Add Pistachios and Almonds: To start, add the nuts to the bottom of your clear plastic cup. Then add the olives.
    2. Prepare Meat Skewer: On a toothpick thread 3-4 pieces of meat and top with cheese cubes. Add to the cup.
    3. Prepare Fruit Skewer: On another toothpick thread the fruit.
    4. Add On Remaining Toppings: Alternate on remaining toothpicks the cheese cherry tomatoes and pickles.
    5. Top With Fresh Herbs: Garnish with fresh rosemary.

    Tips and Serving Suggestions

These are just a few extra ways to jazz up your delicious charcuterie cups. Don’t be surprised if this becomes one of your new favorite appetizers! It’s the best!

    • Add Fresh Herbs: Not only do fresh herbs look great, but they add extra flavor and aromatics to each charcuterie cup. I love adding rosemary sprigs but herbs like basil will work great, too!
    • Other Fruits: Green grapes and red grapes are great for adding to the skewers as well as sugared cranberries for some (delicious) winter flair! Sliced apples are also one of my kids’ favorites to add to their skewers. Fruit and cheese is a heavenly combo.

    Award-Winning Banana Bread

Treat yourself with a slice of thick, rich, and moist banana bread. This is the easiest way to make it! It’s full of flavor and always a hit with the family.

Banana bread is a must-make quick bread that’s so simple but SO delicious! You can also easily tweak it to create things like strawberry banana bread, blueberry banana bread, or chocolate chip banana bread!

    Banana Nut Bread Recipe

This recipe was submitted to me by one of my readers, Penny. She told me that I had to give it a try. It’s my go-to banana bread recipe now! It’s light, moist, and amazingly soft. Penny told me that this recipe has been in her family for 30 years. She sent me a picture of the recipe card and it looked used and like it was 30 years old! This recipe is definitely a keeper. It’s the best banana bread recipe that I’ve tried! I am so glad that I have it for those over-ripe bananas.

Ever since Penny gave me the recipe card for this banana bread I haven’t been able to stop making it. My friends and family are always raving about it! It is so moist every time and seriously the easiest quick bread I have ever made. Make this for a quick snack, breakfast or a side dish to any meal. Just know, it won’t last long!

    Ingredients You’ll Need

The best thing about banana bread is the ingredient list is short and sweet. Nothing complicated here, just some over-ripe bananas and a handful of pantry staples! Check out the recipe card below for exact measurements.

    • Ripe Bananas: Make sure the bananas are at least spotted or a dark brown color. Mash them up with a fork or hand mixer.
    • Baking Soda: This helps the bread rise as it is baking.
    • Vegetable Oil: Keeps the bread moist.
    • Sugar: Adds a touch of sweetness.
    • Eggs: Eggs give the banana bread stability and structure.
    • Salt: Just a pinch is all you need to enhance the flavor of this bread!
    • All-Purpose Flour: This acts as the base of the dough. All-purpose flour works great! Avoid using flour with a high protein content to keep your bread from turning out hard and dense.
    • Walnuts: I LOVE adding chopped walnuts to my banana bread, but this is totally optional!

How Ripe Should My Bananas Be?

Once bananas start turning brown with small and large spots on them they become softer. After another day or two the bananas will turn to a dark brown or black coloring. This is the perfect banana bread banana! If you are not ready to make banana bread quite yet with the ripe bananas, simply peel the bananas and place in a ziplock bag and freeze them. Then they can stay frozen for a month at a time. Now, you will always be ready to make delicious homemade banana bread.

4-photo collage of bread dough being prepared and added to a loaf pan.

    Mashing Your Bananas

Mashing bananas is simple as using a hand mixer and beating on low then increasing to medium-high speed once the bananas are mashed down enough.

How to Make the BEST Banana Bread

Mix it all together and place in a loaf pan for baking. It is literally that simple. This is the best dessert bread to make in a pinch!

    1. Combine: Mix together with a spatula or wooden spoon (all ingredients) mashed bananas, baking soda, oil, sugar, eggs, salt and flour in a large mixing bowl.
    2. Add Nuts: If you’re using walnuts, fold them into your banana mixture.
    3. Bake: Pour in a greased 9×5 loaf pan. Then bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
Front view of a loaf of banana bread.

    Tips, Substitutions, and Extra Add-Ins

Here are a few simple substitutions so you can make this bread with whatever you have on hand!

    • Butter: Salted butter will also work for this. Just leave out the pinch of salt.
    • Sugar: If you love a little more sweetness, substitute white sugar for brown sugar, or for a healthier option try coconut sugar or monk fruit sweetener.
    • Frozen Bananas: Use frozen bananas by thawing them overnight at room temperature. If there is any liquid from the bananas, simply discard that before mashing.

What Can You Add to Banana Bread?

This is the fun part! You can mix in dried fruit, nuts, or even top your banana bread with a layer of frosting. The options are endless and have so much flavor to each of them. Making this bread over and over again just create more ideas for enhancing flavor in each loaf.

    • Chocolate Chips: Who can resist chocolate? Chocolate chips can be sprinkled on top, in the batter or both!
    • Nuts or Seeds: I do love walnuts but pecans, sunflower seeds or pecans make for an added soft crunch.
    • Dried Fruit: Cranberries, blueberries, raisins or apricots change this banana bread into something fresh and fruity!
    • Toppings: Cream cheese frosting, maple syrup or just a simple slice of butter spread over top makes for a delicious snack.

Closeup of a slice of banana bread.

How to Keep Banana Bread Moist

You guessed it! This bread freezes SO well! It is meant to be a freezer bread for sure. There are a few options on how to store it. Pick which one is best for your family, that is, if you have any leftover bread! I tend to triple this recipe just so I have one loaf I am able to place in the freezer for later.

    • At Room Temperature: This is an easy way of storing the bread that will be eaten quickly. Place the cooled bread in a ziplock bag or airtight container. Then store in the pantry or counter at room temperature. Always keep the bread wrapped or stored when not eating. This will lock in the flavor and keep it moist.
    • In the Freezer: Allow the bread to cool completely. Then wrap the entire loaf tightly using plastic wrap or aluminum foil. I recommend going around about 2 to 3 times. Place the wrapped bread in a large freezer ziplock bag and lay in the freezer. When ready to enjoy, thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature.

    Greek Yogurt Veggie Dip

If you couldn’t already tell by the million different recipes on the blog, homemade dips are my love. My kids love dips just as much as I do so I make them all the time at our house! The only downside is that dips can be pretty fatty and high in calories. (NOT the best for my New Year’s resolution of eating healthier!) Good news! With this Greek yogurt dip, you get the best of both worlds. A creamy, flavorful dip that’s also filled with protein and probiotics! This dip is totally macro-friendly and the BEST way to add a pop of flavor to your favorite vegetables. You’re going to love it.

If you’re not already convinced, this Greek yogurt dip is super easy to make too! Also, as long as you’ve got some plain Greek yogurt on hand, chances are you have everything else needed to whip it up. You only need a handful of seasonings from your spice rack! Flavors like dill, garlic, onion, and Italian seasoning are what make this dip so good. Once you get a taste, you won’t be able to stop. If you’re making this dip for a crowd, you may want to double it! It goes fast. My advice? Be sure to snag some for yourself!

    Ingredients for Greek Yogurt Dip

Greek yogurt, milk, and a handful of seasonings are all you need here. Because this dip uses such simple ingredients, you’ll want to make it all the time! Grab some sliced veggies and your favorite chips or crackers for a tasty, healthy snack! Note: all measurements can be found below in the recipe card.

    • Greek Yogurt: I used plain, non-fat Greek yogurt here to keep things healthy!
    • Italian Seasoning: Italian seasoning is so versatile, I love using it in homemade sauces and dips! You can buy it prepackaged or make your own blend using dried basil, oregano, rosemary, marjoram, and thyme. Find my full recipe here! I always like to make my own seasoning blends at home because they taste better and are free of additives and preservatives.
    • Dried Dill: Dill is a must-add for this dip. It adds that classic Greek flavor!
    • Onion Powder: Gives this dip a pop of sharp flavor.
    • Garlic Salt and Powder: Makes each bite perfectly savory!
    • Cracked Black Pepper: Add to taste.
    • Milk: Adjusts the consistency of the Greek yogurt dip. Any kind of milk works!

Ready to Make This Healthy Dip?

Let’s get started! This Greek yogurt dip only takes 5 minutes to make and will have the whole family hooked. I’ve been trying to wean my kids off of ranch dressing and this yogurt dip is the perfect solution. It has incredible flavor but is also filled with protein and probiotics for guilt-free snacking!

    1. Combine Ingredients: To a medium bowl, add the Greek yogurt, Italian seasonings, dried dill, onion powder, garlic powder, garlic salt, and pepper.
    2. Mix: Whisk well until combined and creamy.
    3. Add Milk: You can also whisk in milk if the dip is too thick. Continue to add more until you reach your desired consistency.
    4. Serve and Enjoy: Serve with fresh veggies or crackers.
4-photo collage of dip ingredients being added to a glass bowl and mixed together.

    Tips, Tricks, and Serving Suggestions

This Greek yogurt dip is super straightforward to make, but a few simple fixes can really kick the flavor up a notch.

    • Add Lemon: A squeeze of lemon or dash of lemon pepper will give your dip a pop of tasty Mediterranean flavor!
    • Let it Chill: I always like to let my dip sit in the fridge for an hour or two so the flavors have time to meld. Similarly, you may want to go easy on the seasonings at first since it takes time for them to infuse in the yogurt.
    • Use Fresh Herbs: Dried herbs are usually what I use since I have them on hand, but if you really want to take this dip to the next level, use fresh chopped herbs! They make everything taste better.
    • Add Vinegar: If you’re a lover of tangy dips, try adding a couple tablespoons of white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar!

What to Serve With Your Greek Yogurt Dip

The creamy, savory flavor of this Greek yogurt dip works well with so many different things. Baby carrots, peppers, sliced cucumber, and celery are a must! This dip is also great with crackers, flatbread, and pita chips. You can use this dip as a spread in gyros, wraps, and over buddha bowls as well! It’s a healthy way to add extra flavor to all of your favorite dishes.

How Long Does Greek Yogurt Dip Last?

Greek yogurt dip will last for about 5 days in the fridge. Make sure it’s stored in an airtight container for best results!

Can You Freeze Greek Yogurt Dip?

Yes! Just make sure it’s in an airtight container or freezer bag. It will keep for 2-3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and give it a good mix before you serve it.

    Rice Pudding

Rich, creamy rice pudding is delicious warm or cold, and lightly spiced with just a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s the coziest, most comforting dessert of all! We love it with plump golden raisins!

    Homemade Rice Pudding

This old-fashioned dessert is a classic that is the ultimate in creamy comfort in a bowl. Serve it warm, and it’s perfect for cold winter nights. You can also chill it in the fridge for a wonderful warm weather treat! You’ll love having this recipe in your back pocket for when you’re craving something creamy and sweet.

I like to add just a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg to flavor the rice pudding, but I’m not heavy-handed with the spices since it could easily overpower the classic flavors of this dessert. More cinnamon and nutmeg can be sprinkled over the top of each serving as a garnish, if desired. No matter how you choose to serve it, one thing is for sure- this rice pudding will be a hit with the whole family! And if you love homemade pudding as much as I do, try this vanilla or chocolate pudding next!

    Ingredients Needed

Rice pudding is one of my go-to desserts when my family is craving something sweet. It’s so easy to make and I usually have all of the ingredients on hand. You can leave the raisins out if you’re not into them. But there is something wonderful about the bursts of sweet plump golden raisins in the creamy rice pudding that I love, despite not being a huge raisin fan otherwise.

    • Cooked Rice: I used white, medium-grain rice. See my tips below on how to quickly cook some if you don’t already have some on hand!
    • Milk: I recommend using whole milk to make your rice pudding extra creamy.
    • Sugar: Just regular granulated sugar works great to sweeten up the pudding.
    • Salt: A pinch is all you need to boost the overall flavor of your rice pudding.
    • Beaten Egg: This gets beaten into the pudding mixture to add creaminess and a smooth texture.
    • Butter: You can’t go wrong with butter! This adds the best rich flavor.
    • Vanilla Extract: For the best flavor, I recommend using pure vanilla extract if you have it! Vanilla bean paste works, too, if you want a stronger vanilla flavor.
    • Spices: I used ground cinnamon and nutmeg for a hint of spiced flavor.
    • Sweetened Whipped Cream: (Optional) If you want extra creamy rice pudding, you can mix this in once it’s done.
    • Golden Raisins: (Optional) I love adding these as a garnish!

Can I Use Leftover Rice to Make Rice Pudding?

Yes! Definitely go ahead and use leftover rice when making rice pudding! It’s a great way to avoid food waste and use up leftovers in a new and different way. Medium-grain rice makes for the creamiest, best rice pudding, in my experience, but you could make rice pudding with long-grain rice, basmati rice, or even brown rice if you wanted to.

4-photo collage of pudding being prepared.

If You Need to Make Rice…

If you don’t have leftover cooked rice to make this rice pudding, bring 1 ½ cups water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add ¾ cup medium grain rice, cover, and reduce the heat to a simmer. Simmer for 20 minutes until the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender. You can also quickly make rice with an Instant Pot. Find my full recipe here!

    How to Make Rice Pudding

Cooked medium-grain rice is simmered with milk and sugar, then egg yolks are tempered with some of the hot liquid and added back in to thicken things up and make the pudding extra creamy and rich. You’ll never go back to store-bought!

    1. Add Ingredients to Saucepan: Combine the cooked rice with 1 ½ cups of the milk, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir for about 15 minutes, until the mixture starts to thicken slightly and become creamy.
    2. Add Egg and Spices: In a separate bowl, whisk the egg with the remaining milk. Gradually whisk 1 cup of the hot rice and milk into the egg mixture to temper the egg. Add the tempered egg to the rice mixture, stirring to combine. Stir in the raisins if using, as well as cinnamon and nutmeg.
    3. Cook and Thicken: Continue to cook for another 2 minutes stirring constantly, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla.
    4. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm, at room temperature, or chill and serve cold. For an extra creamy version, mix 1 cup of sweetened whipped cream into the chilled rice pudding.
A bowl of rice pudding with a spoon in it.

How Long is Rice Pudding Good For?

Homemade rice pudding makes great leftovers, and can be served both hot and cold!

    • In the Refrigerator: You can keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days. Just let it cool completely to room temperature, then store in an airtight container in the fridge.

    Does Rice Pudding Freeze Well?

Yes, you can freeze rice pudding, but honestly, it’s best when it’s freshly made. The pudding will tend to separate a bit and not be as creamy after it thaws. If you like eating it cold, I recommend adding a little sweetened whipped cream to improve the texture a bit if you decide to freeze leftover rice pudding. Or you can reheat the thawed pudding on the stove a bit and stir to help it come back together.

    Ingredients

These ingredients are so simple and come together to make THE most delicious bread. Pizza dough is amazing on its own, then you stuff it and dip in in marinara sauce for a heavenly bite every time. You can find the exact measurements below in the recipe card.

    • Pizza Dough: If you have your favorite homemade pizza dough recipe, that will be perfect for this pull apart bread! You could also buy a pre-made pizza dough. Whatever is easiest for you and your family!
    • Mozzarella Cheese: Mozzarella cheese is perfect for stuffing this bread. It melts perfectly on the inside of the bread.
    • Butter: You will want to use unsalted butter. You mix the melted butter with parmesan, garlic powder, and herbs to make the sauce that you brush on top of the bread before baking it.
    • Parmesan Cheese: Parmesan cheese has the perfect flavor for this bread. It’s what you love to sprinkle on top of your pizza!
    • Garlic Powder: Garlic powder brings out the sweet and savory flavors in this dish.
    • Dried Italian Seasoning: Italian seasoning is a blend of herbs that you already love on your pizza like oregano and thyme. It adds so much flavor to the bread!
    • Marinara Sauce: I love making my own homemade marinara sauce, but you can use whatever you like best! You could even use a pizza sauce because it’s pizza dough, so you know it’s going to be amazing.

    1. Prep: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. Cut Bread: Flour the counter and place the pizza dough on top of your floured surface. Cut the pizza dough with a pizza cutter or knife into 33 small pieces.

    4. Shape and Fill: Flatten out a piece of dough and place a cheese piece in the middle. Then gather the dough up and around the cheese. Secure the dough around the cheese.

Tips for Making Christmas Tree Pull Apart Bread

This Christmas tree pull apart bread is so easy to make, and you can change the flavor by adding different ingredients. You could even make a sweet tree instead of savory! Here are my tips for making this side dish.

    • Pinch the Seam: Make sure that when you are stuffing the bread, you pinch the seam closed. You don’t want to see any cheese because it will spill out of the dough, and it will make your bread look different shapes. You want it to stay in a nice little ball while baking!
    • Adding Butter to the Top: This is a crucial step! It adds so much flavor to the bread, and it helps them get nice and golden brown. You can change up the flavors of the butter sauce by adding different herbs and seasonings. Make it your own!
    • Make it Sweet: Do you love dessert pizza? Then you would love a sweet version of this dish! You can sweeten up some cream cheese by adding brown sugar and cinnamon and add that to the middle instead of mozzarella. Then you could brush the top with butter that has cinnamon added to it. Finish it off with a powdered sugar glaze or add a white chocolate sauce for dipping. You’re going to love it!

    Storing Leftovers

This side dish is so yummy, I doubt you will have any leftovers! If you do need to store your Christmas tree pull apart bread, here is what I would do.

    • In the Refrigerator: Pull apart bread is best eaten within 24 hours, but it can last up to 3 days in the refrigerator stored in an airtight container. When you reheat the bread, use the oven or a toaster oven. The microwave can make the bread hard.

  • Amazing Cowboy Beans

    Amazing Cowboy Beans

This website may contain affiliate links and advertising so that we can provide recipes to you. Read my privacy policy.

If you’re looking for a delicious, hearty side dish that the whole family will love, cowboy beans are the answer! A variety of beans are simmered together with applewood smoked bacon, garlic, chopped onions, and ground beef, all in a tangy barbecue sauce!

Cowboy beans are so flavorful and hearty. They’re perfect for potlucks and barbecues once summer rolls around! A few more similar recipes to try are these tried and true baked beans, bean stew, and my insanely good crockpot chili!

Hero image of cowboy beans in a blue and white pot. A white serving spoon is scooping some up.

    Cowboy Beans Recipe

If you haven’t tried cowboy beans before, you’re in for a treat. This hearty side is like an elevated version of baked beans. It’s made with both kidney and cannellini beans for the perfect texture, and then loaded with applewood bacon, diced onion, garlic, ground beef, and pork. Combined with the thick, flavorful sauce, these cowboy beans are a knockout side. Your friends and family will go crazy over them!

I need to just take a minute to talk about this sauce, though. It is to die for! I used Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce as a base, but then jazzed it up with mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar for the perfect tangy flavor. You’re going to want to lick your bowl clean. Try these cowboy beans out for your next family get-together! I promise they won’t disappoint.

What Are Cowboy Beans Made Of?

The combination of all of these ingredients is divine. What really makes cowboy beans stand out is the savory, tangy flavor that it has, plus it’s filled with ground beef and bacon. You can’t go wrong with bacon! See the recipe card below for exact measurements.

    • Bacon: I used thick-cut applewood bacon. It just has the best flavor! It’s perfect for adding to a hearty side dish like cowboy beans.
    • Diced Onion: I used a yellow onion here. Yellow onions are sharp but mild, perfect for adding to savory side dishes.
    • Minced Garlic: Use fresh garlic if you can! It will give your cowboy beans the best flavor.
    • Ground Beef: I used lean ground beef. You can also swap this out for ground pork or even ground turkey if you want a leaner version of this dish.
    • Seasonings: I used a mix of chili powder and salt and pepper to add a little heat and boost the flavor of the beans.
    • Canned Pork and Beans: We usually have a lot of these in the pantry. This cowboy beans recipe is great for using them up!
    • Beans: For the best texture, I use both canned cannellini beans and kidney beans here.
    • Barbecue Sauce: I used Sweet Baby Ray’s. You can also make some from scratch to customize the flavor! Find my full recipe here.
    • Additional Sauces: What really makes these cowboy beans delicious (in my opinion) is the flavorful sauce! It’s the perfect blend of savory and tangy. In addition to barbecue sauce, I added ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar.

    Let’s Get Cooking!

I love cowboy beans because it’s such an easy side to make. Once you’ve cooked up your bacon, all you have to do is combine all of your ingredients and throw them in the oven for 45 minutes! Because it’s so hands-off, you can take that time to make some tasty homemade cornbread to complete the meal!

    1. Preheat Oven, Cook Bacon: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large Dutch oven or heavy bottom pot add the bacon and cook until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon.
    2. Cook Diced Onion: Leave some bacon grease in the bottom and add the onion. Cook until almost tender.
    3. Cook Ground Beef: Add in the garlic and ground beef. Cook and crumble ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess grease.
    4. Add Remaining Ingredients: Add in cooked bacon, chili powder, salt, pepper, pork and beans, cannellini beans, kidney beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire, apple cider vinegar, and stir just until incorporated.
    5. Bake and Serve: Bake in the oven for 45 minutes.

Can I Make Cowboy Beans in the Slow Cooker?

Yes! It’s so easy! You’re going to love having these cowboy baked beans to come home to. Simply cook your bacon, ground beef, and diced onion, then add to a crock pot with the other ingredients and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 5.

    More Mix-Ins

Cowboy beans are the perfect side dish for any season. They’re warm, hearty and comforting in the winter, but also great for summer cookouts! Here are a few extra flavor additions to customize your beans with.

    • Add in Beans: The more kinds of beans, the merrier! Feel free to add in white beans, black beans, pinto beans, or garbanzo beans. They add such a great texture!
    • Make it Sweeter: Cowboy beans are absolutely delicious with a little sweetness. Feel free to add in brown sugar, honey, or molasses to taste!
    • Add Smoky Flavor: If you want your cowboy beans to have smoky flavor, try adding in a tablespoon of liquid smoke!

    Storing Leftover Cowboy Beans

Cowboy beans are great for leftovers. They make the perfect quick and easy lunch to heat up in the microwave!

    • In the Refrigerator: Store cowboy beans in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
    • In the Freezer: Store in an airtight freezer bag for 3-4 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.

    1. Cut the Wrappers if Needed: If using egg roll wrappers, cut them down to a rectangular size to help achieve a thinner roll.

    Tips For Frying

Frying Lumpia is simple and fast! Follow my tips below to help you along the way. Lumpia is light and crispy and fried to perfection! I can’t wait for you to make them. You’re going to love them!

    • The Right Temperature: Make sure the temperature of the oil is 350 degrees Fahrenheit for frying. If the temperature is less than 350 degrees Fahrenheit, the wrappers will absorb the oil too much. Then the lumpia will be too greasy. When the oil is too hot, the wrappers will too fast. Then the filling won’t have enough time to warm through.
    • Use Paper Towels: Lay the fried lumpia on paper towels to cool. Paper towels absorb any excess oil and will help the rolls stay crispy.

Top view of lumpia on a gray plate with a side of dipping sauce. Chopped green onion on top for garnish.

    Lumpia Wrappers

Authentic lumpia is a Filipino spring roll fried in a lumpia wrapper. The wrappers are paper thin and smooth and is similar to a crepe. When fried in hot oil, the texture of the wrapper is crispy and flakey. Each bite is light and crunchy and full of flavor! Traditional lumpia is made with actual lumpia wrappers. If you can’t find them, then that’s ok! I wasn’t able to find mine locally, so here are some alternatives.

    • Wonton Wrappers: Wonton wrappers are thin in texture.
    • Spring Roll Wrappers: Rice paper wrappers that are thin and translucent.
    • Egg Roll Wrappers: Most common wrappers available at grocery stores.

Close view of lumpia on a gray plate with a side of dipping sauce. Sliced onions garnished on top.

    Storing Leftovers

This lumpia recipe makes a lot, so here are instructions for storing. I also have instructions for freezing leftovers for months at a time. My tip for reheating cooked lumpia is to do it in the air fryer! It restores the crispiness and is delicious to enjoy all week.

    • In the Refrigerator: Once lumpia has cooled, then transfer the leftovers to an airtight container. Store the leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
    • In the Freezer: Lumpia is best stored in the freezer before frying. Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet, then cover with foil wrap. Freeze the lumpia for a few hours. When the rolls are frozen solid, transfer the them to a zip-top freezer bag. Lumpia can be frozen for up to 3 months.
    • To Reheat: Reheat cooked rolls in the air fryer at 360 degrees Fahrenheit for 4 minutes.
    • Fry Frozen Lumpia: There’s no need to thaw frozen lumpia. Simply fry the rolls right from the freezer.

  • Sweet Potato Bites

    Sweet Potato Bites

Sweet potato bites are a fun twist on the classic sweet potato casserole. The comforting flavors of sweet potatoes, fluffy marshmallows, and pecans transform into a cute and delicious hand-held bite.

Everyone will love these sweet potato bites and they will be the best appetizer on the table! So make sure to bring a lot, because they are INCREDIBLE! I love when I find an easy and delicious appetizer to be a crowd-pleaser. Some of my other favorite appetizers to bring to parties are air-fried egg rolls, jalapeño poppers, or this simple little smokies recipe.

    What Are Sweet Potato Bites?

Sweet potato casserole often times make an appearance at Thanksgiving dinner. The unique combination of fork-tender sweet potatoes, melted marshmallows, and pecans on top may sound questionable until you try it! These darling sweet potato bites are a delicious version of the casserole and taste identical. Every single comforting flavor is in one small bite!

Some sweet potato casseroles have marshmallows, and some use brown sugar or maple syrup. The sweetness compliments the potatoes any way you choose to make them. Here is my popular sweet potato casserole using brown sugar, it really is the best! Another great classic recipe is this sweet potato pie or this easy 3 ingredient candied sweet potatoes recipe.

Ingredients For The Best Appetizer or Side Dish

This sweet potato bites recipe is easy and fast and only takes 6 ingredients to make! You will LOVE how small and perfectly they fit your hand. This will be the best appetizer or side dish recipe during the holiday season. I can’t wait for you to make them because everyone will ask for the recipe. It’s a total winner!

    • Sweet Potatoes: Choose sweet potatoes that are the same size and width. This helps the rounds cook evenly.
    • Butter: Melt the butter to help coat the sweet potatoes.
    • Maple Syrup: A little added sweetness is delicious!
    • Ground Cinnamon: I love cinnamon on sweet potatoes.
    • Marshmallows: Cut each marshmallow in half because they will puff up quite large under the broiler.
    • Pecan Halves: Pecan halves make the best finishing touch, but candied pecans would be yummy too!

How To Make Sweet Potato Bites

This sweet potato bites recipe is easy to make and takes less than 30 minutes. Simply toss your sweet potatoes in the maple cinnamon butter, then let your oven do all the work! All that’s left is the quick broil of the marshmallow, then a pecan on top to finish the yummy goodness. And there you have it…the best appetizer or side dish at the party. Let’s get cooking!

    1. Preheat Oven/Prepare Pan: Preheat oven to 400°F and grease a baking sheet pan with butter or nonstick spray.
    2. Melt Butter, Maple Syrup, and Cinnamon: In a small microwavable bowl, add the butter, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Microwave until melted for about 30 seconds then stir to combine.
    3. Toss Butter Mixture With Sweet Potato Rounds: Add sweet potato rounds to a large bowl. Then drizzle the melted butter mixture over the potatoes. Toss until evenly coated.
    4. Arrange On Prepared Pan: Place the sweet potato rounds onto the prepared pan and evenly space them.
    5. Bake Potatoes: Bake sweet potatoes for about 20 minutes, or until fork tender.
    6. Remove Sweet Potatoes and Set Oven to Broil: Remove the sweet potatoes from the oven and set the oven to broil.
    7. Add Marshmallows: Top each sweet potato round with a marshmallow half.
    8. Broil Marshmallows: Broil marshmallow-topped sweet potatoes for 1-2 minutes. The marshmallow will be lightly toasted and melted. Be sure not to burn them.
    9. Remove Sweet Potatoes and Add Pecans: As soon as the sweet potatoes come out of the oven, press a pecan half into the top of the marshmallow. These bites are best served immediately.

    Variations

Feel free to adjust this sweet potato bite recipe to your liking! You can also add additional flavors or switch out the nuts! It would be fun to make them into savory bites as well. Here are a few tips and tricks to make these bites just the way you want them! They really are the best!

    • Add Different Nuts: If you’re not a fan of pecans, swap them out for other nuts. You can also omit them entirely. Walnuts or almonds are always a great choice! I also love making this recipe with cinnamon sugar candied almonds.
    • Adding Brown Sugar: If you don’t love marshmallows, use brown sugar instead. It caramelizes perfectly, leaving the potato glazed and golden. The sweetness of these bites reminds me of a sweet potato pie!
    • Change Up the Spices: Add a pinch of pumpkin pie spice to the butter mixture. It gives it a flavor fit for fall.
    • Add Some Bacon: Bacon is the best addition to an appetizer! Salty bacon pieces would be delicious on the sweet bites. Place a small piece of cooked bacon under the marshmallow before broiling. Or sprinkle cooked bacon pieces on top of the melted marshmallows.

    How to Pick Sweet Potatoes

For this recipe to be a success, you need to know how to start with the best ingredients! The perfect sweet potatoes will help make this sweet potato bites recipe the best! In case you haven’t picked out sweet potatoes before, here are some helpful hints! Sweet potatoes are so versatile. So, once you know how to pick them, you can use them for many recipes. Here are my easy tips!

    • Texture: Look for a sweet potato that is smooth and firm. You don’t want it to have any cuts or cracks in it!
    • Color: A sweet potato with classic delicious taste is going to be red or orange in color.
    • Size: For this recipe, choose medium-sized potatoes. They can’t be too large because they are meant to be bite-sized. Also, pick sweet potatoes that are uniform in size. This helps the bites be the same size.

    Storing Leftovers

I can promise, there will not be many left overs for you to snack on the following day! They are the first appetizer to go and are best right out of the oven. But if there are leftovers, just store them for later. Here are my easy tips!

    • In the Refrigerator: Once cooled, place leftover sweet potato bites in an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
    • To Reheat: Reheat leftovers in the microwave for about 30 seconds and enjoy! You can also reheat them in the oven. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Simply place them on a cookie sheet. Bake until warmed through for about 5 minutes and enjoy!
